Alternative Fundraising Events

Canning | Letter Writing with THONvelopes | Canvassing
Small Business and Corporate Solicitation | Alternative Fundraising Events

Alternative fundraisers are a way to involve the members of your organization in an event that is both fun and beneficial For The Kids! Alternative fundraisers are considered any type of fundraising that is not canister, corporate, mail, online, or pledge solicitation.

When planning an alternative fundraiser, we encourage you to put considerable thought into the process. You should be asking yourself questions such as, “Is the content of our fundraiser appropriate for children?” and “I’m putting a lot of time and effort into my plans. Would an easier fundraising activity, such as letter writing, be more worthwhile?” This document provides information and data regarding different types of Alt Funds as well as outlines trends in fundraising over the past few years. It is an invaluable resource for brainstorming and planning Alternative Fundraisers!

In order to hold an alternative fundraiser for THON, you must:

  1. Submit a request on THINK at least 2 weeks prior to the event.
  2. Fill out a “New Company Contact Request” form if you intend to solicit a donor for support.
  3. Submit all graphics and promotional materials to the Rules and Regulations Alternative Fundraising Coordinators for review.
  4. Fill out a Post-Fundraising Report on THINK.
  5. Deliver all funds and a paper copy of the Post-Fundraising Report to the THON Office as soon as the fundraiser has ended.

If you have any questions, please contact Mairead Hanna, the Overall Rules & Regulations Chairperson, at rules.regulations@thon.org.
