THON Captains are hardworking and motivated leaders in the THON community. As a Captain, you can expect to take an active role in the planning of THON events throughout the year, grow as a leader, and build long-lasting relationships with other student volunteers. Typically, past experience within THON is recommended. We encourage you to apply for the positions that most interest you! Best of luck!
Captain applications are accepted in late April and late August each year, depending on available positions. The application is not available at this time! Check back next semester.

Communications
Committee Color: Kelly Green
The mission of the Communications Committee is to serve as the main liaison to all THON volunteers within the Penn State community. By building strong relationships, we work to educate and empower the students, faculty, staff, and alumni of our University as to how they can make a greater impact in the fight to cure pediatric cancer. The hundreds of student organizations that support THON rely on Communications to give them the right information and tools they need to accomplish their goals for the year.
The Communications Captains spread THON’s message to all Penn State students, organizations, faculty, staff, and alumni by supplying them with the tools and information they need to provide financial and emotional support to the children, families, researchers, and staff of The Four Diamonds Fund. Communications Captains also staff the THON Office every weekday so that no question goes unanswered!

This person will assist the Overall and the rest of the Captains by keeping everyone informed and organized. They will be in charge of taking minutes at meetings, sending weekly reminders to the committee, and ordering all the COMM gear for the year. This position will also be in charge of the maintaining the THON Office by keeping it clean, organized, and friendly for all visitors!

These positions work with the Dance Marathon Alumni Interest Group (DMAIG) and the Penn State Alumni Association to build a strong base of support for years to come. They will help with Alumni fundraising and regional events, as well as plan Alumni events THON weekend. The Alumni Relations Captain positions will be in charge of a committee that works to spread awareness of THON to Alumni.

This Captain will be responsible for communicating the mission of THON to Penn State faculty and staff. This will be done through face-to-face meetings with professors, advisors, and other staff and coordinating several events throughout the year to teach faculty and staff how they can become involved. They will also lead a committee in charge of helping with existing faculty and staff initiatives, as well as creating new ones.

This Captain will play an integral role in communicating THON’s message to the student body of Penn State. They will be in charge of a committee that will work together to come up with new ideas and events to spread the mission and spirit of THON to the Penn State community. This goal will be accomplished through letters, staffing information stations, coordinating events to increase THON involvement, such as the THON Involvement Fair, and having face-to-face meetings with individuals who want to learn more about THON.

These Captains are the main liaison between THON and the Commonwealth Campuses. They will build and maintain strong ties with all campuses of Penn State throughout the year to ensure every student has the chance to get involved. They also provide the tools and information necessary for each campus to accomplish its goals for the year. With the help of their committee, they plan events and initiatives to keep all Penn State students connected to THON.

These Captains will work to teach and empower both the General and Special Interest Organizations that fundraise for THON so that they can accomplish their goals for the upcoming year. By working with the Organization Liaison team, they will come up with the most effective means of communication to all THON organizations possible. Fundraising and THON Chair experience are a huge plus for this position. Having the ability to work well with people and effectively communicate are essential to this position.

These Captains will work closely with the Organization Liaison team to assist all the student organizations of THON in meeting their goals for the upcoming year. Their main focus will be the Greek organizations, but they will also work on fundraising seminars for all THON Chairs. These Captains must be members of the Greek community. Fundraising and THON Chair experience is a huge plus for this position. Having the ability to work well with people and effectively communicate are essential to this position.

These Captains will work closely with the Organization Liaison team to assist all the student organizations of THON in meeting their goals for the upcoming year. The main focus for these Captains will be the Independent Dancers of THON, but they will also work on fundraising seminars for all THON chairs. Fundraising and THON Chair experience are a huge plus for this position. Having the ability to work well with people and effectively communicate are essential to this position.

This Captain will be in charge of planning various events throughout the year to maintain the high energy and strong bonds within the Communications Committee. Activities this Captain will help coordinate include KGSO (Kelly Green Shirt Orientation), COMM-A-Palooza, Comm Nom Nom and Xtreme COMMpetition. They will be responsible for promoting camaraderie within the Communications Committee, as well as all other THON Committees, in order to build relationships and increase respect across all committees. They will be the source of internal communication between all six Communications Committees to ensure everyone has the best experience possible and feels appreciated. This position also entails providing inspirational materials to the Communications Committee to make sure everyone is motivated and working with a common theme, For The Kids!

The Mini-THON/DM Liaison will work with the Mini-THON program at Hershey Medical Center. They will assist different Mini-THON’s by providing them with any information they may require while planning their event. Additionally, they work to plan events for Mini-THON students during THON Weekend. They will also serve as the main liaison to other Universities and Dance Marathon’s around the country that want to learn what makes THON so successful.

This Captain will help teach organizations that are new to THON the informationand fundraising strategies they need to be successful. They will also work with the Organization Liaison team to help all THON organizations fulfill their goals for the year through different fundraising seminars and events. Fundraising and THON Chair experience are a huge plus for this position. Having the ability to work well with people and effectively communicate are essential to this position.

This Captain will be the point person for all the Organization Liaisons as well as serve as the main liaison for Family Relations and Donor and Alumni Relations. They will coordinate the contacting of the organizations, help answer questions, and help plan the THON Chair Workshops. They will also help with the mentorship program by pairing new organizations with established organizations so they can learn from each other. Having previous liaison experience is a huge plus for this position. The ability to accomplish many goals at once is a must for this position.

With the help of his/her committee, this Captain will be in charge of planning and coordinating several events throughout the year. One such event is the Independent Dancer Diamond Pursuit, a competition for Independent Dancer couples in January. This Captain will also coordinate making the Captain, Committee Member, and family identification buttons, as well as promoting THON Blood Drives!

This Captain works with the student athletes to help them fundraise and become involved in different THON activities. They act as a THON Chair to athletes by helping them find alternative ways to fundraise and participate in THON.

This position is almost entirely focused on preparing for THON Weekend, though they will help coordinate certain events throughout the year. They will plan all the Communication committee's activities, such as Info Booths in the Bryce Jordan Center, the THON Weekend Lost and Found, sleep shifts for all THON Captains, and other Communications Committee events THON Weekend. Excellent organizational skills and the ability to accomplish many goals at once are a must for this position.

This Captain will work closely with THON Chairs new to fundraising, whether they are part of a new organization or an Independent Dancer Couple, to introduce them to effective fundraising strategies through meetings and events. They will also work with the Organization Liaison team to help all THON organizations fulfill their goals for the year. Previous fundraising and THON Chair experience are a huge plus for this position. Having the ability to work well with people, effectively communicate and accomplish many goals at once is a must for this position.

Donor & Alumni Relations
Committee Color: Royal Blue
The mission of the Donor & Alumni Relations Committee is to empower, motivate, and educate the THON community to increase awareness of pediatric cancer and to fundraise effectively. It is our goal to help THON continue its monetary and emotional contribution to the Four Diamonds Fund by maintaining and building relationships with THON’s individual, small business, corporate, and foundation donors.
The Donor and Alumni Relations Captain Committee strives to spread awareness of THON by making each experience unique for every donor. They will have an opportunity to share their passion for THON through professional contacts at Small Businesses, Corporations, and Foundations. In addition, DAR Captains will continue to keep THON fresh in the minds of Penn State Alumni. Each captain will act as a fundraising liaison to a group of organizations. As a fundraising resource, the DAR Captains will be able to assist THON Chairs as they organize and implement a donor solicitation strategy in addition to contacting businesses themselves. Some DAR Captains will also be given committee members to help with their specific tasks. DAR is truly an unforgettable experience!

This Captain needs to be highly motivated and organized. The Administrative Assistant will serve as project manager for DAR and work with the Overall to ensure functionality within the committee. The Administrative Assistant will be responsible for weekly meeting minutes and sending out committee reminders and updates.

This Captain must be an effective communicator as well as possess a greater level of ingenuity in an attempt to target a larger, more diverse population. This Captain will work closely with the Communications Committee to act as a liaison for Alumni fundraising and will also work closely with the Public Relations committee to enable effective outreach of THON’s message to all Penn State and THON Alumni.

These Captains are critical in the final stages of the donor experience. They are responsible for coordinating the efforts to thank and benefit all small business, corporate, and individual donors. These Captains will have committee members to help them complete their tasks, which makes the ability to inspire and motivate essential. They will also have the opportunity to develop new benefiting and stewardship ideas. Benefiting will also work closely with THONvelopes and Organization Liaisons to plan all-DAR events like DAR Fall Fun Fest and DAR Wars.

This Captain will need to possess solid communication skills in order to effectively communicate THON’s fundraising strategy to the Commonwealth Campus THON Chairs. The CCSG Captain will use their skills to develop fundraising plans and contact potential donors. Also, this Captain may be required to attend break-out sessions for CCSG THON Chairs.

These Captains must be organized and enjoy using spreadsheets. They will be responsible for updating and maintaining all of the donation information in THINK as well as cleaning up any obsolete donor information in the database. These Captains will be working closely with the Finance committee throughout the THON season.

This Captain will work collaboratively to keep THON’s donors coming back every year. They must possess analytic skills necessary to pinpoint donor characteristics and capitalize on them to enhance donor retention. This Captain must also possess great time management skills and initiative in order to effectively meet goals. The Donor Analyst and Retention will also be responsible for finding innovative ways to track THON’s donors for the future. Their results will be crucial to the success of the entire Donor and Alumni Relations committee as we strive to maximize the donor experience.

These Captains plan various events throughout the year that cater to THON’s donors. These Captains will be responsible for planning the Donor Recognition Reception as well as assisting with the University Recognition Reception during THON Weekend. They will also be in charge of coordinating the decorating of donor suites in the BJC THON Weekend. Therefore, these Captains will work closely with the Hospitality Committee and Supply Logistics Committee. In addition, they will have the opportunity to develop new benefits or stewardship events for the donors.

These Captains will be responsible for the bulk of the liaising DAR does to organizations throughout the year. They ensure that organizations are fundraising effectively and working very closely with the Communications committee to accomplish this. They will also be aiding the Benefiting and THONvelopes Captains with the planning of all-DAR events.

These Captains will be responsible for creating a solicitation strategy for all current and potential donors in Centre County. They have the opportunity to be innovative and promote THON throughout the local area by means of local networking events for Centre County businesses. They will also organize a Local Donor Tour THON Weekend.

This person needs to be energetic, creative, and outgoing. They will be in charge of providing weekly inspirational and motivational stories and lead team building activities at committee events. The Inspiration Captain will also plan committee events. This Captain will be responsible for creating a greater connection between the DAR Committee and THON Families. In addition, they will plan a tour of Penn State Hershey Children’s Hospital for donors.

These Captains have the responsibility of leading the DAR committee special projects. These Captains will work with Rules and Regulations Committee to review Alternative Fundraisers for THON 2012. Also these Captains will plan and schedule all of the DAR-lead tours THON Weekend and organize DAR’s THON Weekend timeline.

These Captains need to be capable enough to plan and implement larger scale initiatives. They will be responsible for THON’s individual donors and all aspects of the THONvelope (letter writing) campaign. They have the responsibility of coordinating the sorting, distributing, and collecting of all THONvelopes. Additionally, they will develop ways to effectively promote the campaign and communicate its message and importance to the THON community. These Captains will be working with committee members to complete their tasks. THONvelopes will also work closely with Benefiting and Organization Liaisons to plan all-DAR events like DAR Fall Fun Fest and DAR Wars.

This position will work with THON Donors and University Contacts in organizing and planning recruiting events for THON volunteers. They will make presentations to donors about how donating to THON is more than a monetary commitment. They will also, have the unique opportunity of maintaining and expanding the support THON receives from Foundations. In addition they will also work with the Donor Events Captains to plan the University Recognition Reception THON Weekend.

Entertainment
Committee Color: Orange
The mission of the Entertainment Committee is to provide and ensure the highest level of excitement, quality, and safety in all music, productions, and live events during THON Weekend and at every THON event and production throughout the year.
Entertainment Captains have the unique opportunity to spread THON spirit throughout Penn State and its surrounding communities. The Entertainment Captains work hard to ensure the highest quality entertainment is brought to the stage and screen at every THON event throughout the year. THON Skate and THON Band Bash are two of several events Entertainment holds during the year to raise money For The Kids and spread the spirit of THON. During THON Weekend, responsibilities include but are not limited to stage set-up, the Pre-THON show, stage and camera shifts, Entertainment events, bands, Athlete Hour, Pep Rally, and post-THON stage teardown.

This Captain will work closely with the Overall to keep every Entertainment Captain informed and organized. Responsibilities include taking meeting notes, maintaining the ANGEL group, sending out reminders, coordinating set-up and teardown of events, while also being the main contact to Special Events and Supply Logistics. This position also will work closely with the Local Entertainment Captains to organize Entertainment’s aspects of the THON Family Carnival and THON 5K. Strong organization skills and attention to detail are necessary for this position.
This position has the responsibility of handling all media and footage associated with THON 2012 as well as creating digital backups. This Captain is in charge of archiving all THON memorabilia from all THON events throughout the year to ensure that the history and legacy of THON is preserved for generations to come. They also will have the opportunity to research THON as they organize and maintain the THON documents and media both from the campus and from the local media. They will also work with the Public Relations Committee to create graphics, flyers, and posters to promote Entertainment specific events. This Captain will also serve as the main contact to the Technology Committee. Knowledge of servers, Final Cut, and data backup are preferred.

These Captains are responsible for recruiting and managing the contracts of bands that will perform throughout the THON season and during THON Weekend. They also will be in charge of booking and running the annual THON Band Bash. Good communication skills, organization, and knowledge of the local and regional music scene are preferred.
These Captains act as the main line of communication between Entertainment and the Family Relations Committee. Their main projects will include coordinating the Penn State Family Fashion Show, the “Wish Program” video, and the "Where are They Now?" video featured THON Weekend along with various other family-related projects. These Captains should be creative and organized and have good communication skills.
These Captains are responsible for recruiting and organizing events on the floor during THON Weekend as well as thinking of new and innovative ways to involve the thousands of crowd members who are in attendance during THON weekend. This position is responsible for making sure the entire Committee gets the best interaction with the dancers and audience as possible. Creativity, big ideas, and practicality are a must.
This Captain is responsible for maintaining the bond and energy within the Entertainment Committee. They will plan and coordinate all retreats, design and order all gear, and develop bonding activities throughout the year. They also will be responsible for making sure everyone on the Entertainment Committee is appreciated and has the best experience possible. This Captain will also be in charge of Birthday Celebrations during THON Weekend Creativity and event planning skills are a must.
These two Captains work closely together to recruit and organize local entertainment acts involved in THON Weekend and all events leading up to THON Weekend. They will be responsible for finding a variety of performance acts that provide high energy and excitement. Communication and organization skills are a must. Knowledge of local entertainment is preferred.
This position has the prestigious task of creating and maintaining the timeline for THON Weekend. The Timeline Captain, along with the Overall, will help coordinate and manage every act, performance, and event that will take place THON Weekend. This Captain will work closely with Entertainment, along with every other Committee, group, and organization to ensure the Timeline will run smoothly THON Weekend. In addition to being extremely well organized, this person must have a working knowledge of Excel and be familiar with all THON Weekend events.
This Captain serves as the liaison between SAAB, THON, and the student athletes who perform at the Pep Rally and participate in Athlete Hour. This Captain also has the duty of planning Athlete Hour and working closely with the Pep Rally Captains to coordinate student athlete performances. Very strong communication skills, organization, and creativity are a must.

These two Captains have the duty of planning one of THON Weekend's biggest events: the Pep Rally. They will work together to bring new ideas to THON's Pep Rally and manage student athlete performances with the help of the SAAB Liaison. Strong organization, creativity, and dedication are a must.
These Captains are in charge of the first event to take place THON Weekend, the Pre-THON Show, which will set the tone for the rest of the 46 hours. They will be responsible for creating all of the details for the Pre-THON Show including the Pre-THON Video as well as organizing acts to perform in the show. These Captains also plan and host the 100 Days ‘Til THON Celebration in conjunction with Public Relations. These Captains must be creative, innovative, and organized.
The Production Captains are responsible for consulting and producing all videos created and shown both during THON Weekend and throughout the year. This list includes but is not limited to the THON Promotional Video, Line Dance Video, pump up videos, and the Where Are They Now? video. These Captains are in charge of producing a new THON souvenir DVD to capture THON events throughout the year. These Captains will also work with other Committees to ensure the highest quality of entertainment in all videos produced. Creativity, passion, and dedication are a must. Captains in this position should be very experienced in Final Cut and have a working knowledge of all aspects of production.

This Captain will serve as the main contact to the THON Committees that Entertainment works the closest with during THON weekend: Rules and Regulations, Morale and OPP. This Captain will coordinate ENT's efforts with RYB, setting up meetings and making sure THON weekend runs as smoothly as possible. Very strong communication and organization are preferred, as well as experience on R&R, Morale or OPP.
This Captain will be responsible for coordinating a variety of events and projects throughout the THON season including THON Skate, THON Bowling, and THON Band Bash. This Captain will be in charge of set-up, publicity, organization and coordination of these pre-THON events. Strong communication, organization and creativity are preferred.
The DJ Captains are responsible for providing the energy of THON weekend throughout the entire year. They will be in constant communication with all THON committees in charge of internal pre-THON events as they will DJ those events while helping them in planning and running each event. These captains will work extremely closely with their co-captain along with the co-captains in their respective positions on Morale. Good communication and experience in DJing is highly encouraged for this position.
Family Relations
Committee Color: Light Blue
The mission of the Family Relations Committee is to provide year round assistance and support to The Four Diamonds Families by ensuring that they enjoy all of their THON experiences to the fullest. Family Relations is committed to the well being of the Four Diamonds Families, keeping students informed and inspired, and working alongside the rest of THON’s Committees to ensure that the families remain at the heart of THON and everything is done For The Kids.
The Family Relations Committee upholds the emotional aspect of THON’s mission statement. Family Relations works to support the families and share their inspiration with the entire THON community. Additionally, Family Relations plans family events throughout the THON season, and weekend events such as the Family Variety Show and Four Diamonds Fashion Show.

This captain is responsible for keeping Family Relations organized by taking meeting minutes, sending them out to the rest of the committee, and sending weekly reminders in a prompt manner. This captain is also responsible for creating the family and FR captain schedules for THON weekend and running and maintaining the family check-in table at the Bryce Jordan Center. This position will also play a large role in raising awareness about pediatric cancer through weekly childhood cancer facts and assist in planning awareness events. The Administrative Assistant will also assist the Four Diamonds Contact with the Gold Ribbon Campaign.
These captains are responsible for recruiting THON captains and other volunteers to participate in the Penn Pal Program in which students are granted the opportunity to talk to a Four Diamonds Family on a personal level. They will also be in charge of the Kids Variety Shows, the Kids Fashion Show, Teen Night, and the Captains-in-Training (CIT) Program which all take place during THON weekend. The will be responsible for recruiting families to participate in these events as well as planning and executing them. These captains will work closely with the Entertainment Committee and Larry Moore on the logistics of the events that take place on stage THON weekend. Additionally, they will also plan events for teens throughout the THON season.
This captain will be responsible for maintaining the family database, obtaining and maintaining new family stories, and serve as the primary contact for all second-year families in THON 2012. They will also be responsible for sending out the Four Diamonds Family listserv emails as well as the Family of the Week story throughout the year. For THON Weekend, he or she will also update the THON Reference Guide, organize and run the Parent Info Session, and organize the Adopt-a-Independent Dancer Program.
These captains will be responsible for the organization of any and all family projects devised by the FR Committee. These projects are but are not limited to the maintenance and improvement of the family webpages, the Feature Family Hallway THON weekend, the Feature Family Cards for the Dancer Bags, and the Family Shout-Out video which is played for the dancers. The primary goal of this position is to provide the committees of THON various ways to learn about the Four Diamonds Families.
This captain is responsible for providing decorations for all Family Relations events and activities throughout the year. These range from decorating for Harvest Day to the decorations for the Family Lounge in the Bryce Jordan Center THON Weekend. This captain is also responsible for creating all posters and banners needed by FR for the year. This position also heads the effort to send birthday cards to all Four Diamonds children on their birthdays which are signed by the entire committee. Additionally, this position serves as the Supply Logistics Liaison and will obtain all necessary supplies needed by members of Family Relations throughout the year. Through his or her position as the SL liaison and in conjunction with the Welcoming Captain, this captain will also be responsible for creating the welcoming baskets to be placed in the rooms of Four Diamonds families for THON Weekend.
This captain is responsible for the coordination of all aspects of Hershey Tours and Special Visitors Trips for THON captains and organization members. This position will be responsible for communicating with THON volunteers about their trips and making sure that each tour date is filled with the maximum number of students. In addition, this captain will serve as a contact for The Four Diamonds Fund and will attempt to bridge the gap between THON and The Fund. He or she will do this by facilitating THON volunteer involvement at Four Diamonds Fund events and by providing information about The Fund to Penn State students during pediatric cancer awareness events. This captain will also work on the Gold Ribbon campaign with the Administrative Assistant.
These captains will be responsible for organizing the General, Special Interest, and Commonwealth Adopt-A-Family applications from organizations as they are handed in to Family Relations. They will also be responsible for the grading of these applications and the pairing of Four Diamonds Families with the Penn State Independent organizations. These captains will be the primary contact for these organizations and will track their efforts and activities with the paired Four Diamonds Families throughout the year. They will be responsible for highlighting outstanding organizations and also penalizing organizations that don’t fulfill their duties within AAF. At the end of the year they will assist in the creation of an AAF Reference Guide for future organization leaders.
This captain will be responsible for organizing the Greek Adopt-A-Family applications from organizations as they are handed in to Family Relations. He or she will also be responsible for the grading of these applications and the pairing of Four Diamonds Families with the Penn State Greek organizations. This captain will be the primary contact for these organizations and will track their efforts and activities with the paired Four Diamonds Families throughout the year. He or she will be responsible for highlighting outstanding organizations and also penalizing organizations that don’t fulfill their duties within AAF. At the end of the year they will assist in the creation of an AAF Reference Guide for future organization leaders.
This captain is responsible for placing Four Diamonds Families in hotel rooms THON weekend and creating a welcoming and comfortable environment for each and every one of them by answering questions and providing support to them. This captain will receive hotel contracts from the Family Relations Overall and will be required to assign families to the rooms provided. This position will also support and help the Family Relations Decorator with the Welcoming Baskets to be placed in the hotel rooms for the families. Additionally, this captain will serve as the Hospitality Liaison and will work with HOS to create an organized system for family meals, the food options in the Family Lounge, the food for family meals, and the dancer meal served by families during THON Weekend.
This captain will be paired with a liaison from the Morale Committee to coordinate family involvement in Morale events throughout THON weekend. The main events that this position will help with are Kids Mail Call and the Scavenger Hunt. This captain will also facilitate family interaction in all other Morale events including random theme hours and Color Wars. Additionally, this captain will work to foster captain and committee member interaction with families and also to improve relations with other committees by extending thanks and highlighting different committees on a weekly basis.
This captain is responsible for keeping the Family Relations committee as a whole inspired and motivated. This job is accomplished through the coordination of retreats and committee activities, by providing inspiration and icebreakers during meetings, and by facilitating all FR gear discussions throughout the year. In turn, this captain will also be responsible for sharing inspiration and motivation to the rest of the THON community. This captain will also be responsible for creating the Celebration of Life video, which is played during Family Hour THON weekend.
This captain will be the main contact for all Four Diamonds Families new to THON in 2011. This position is responsible for coordinating the New Family Orientation held in January at the Penn State Hershey Children’s Hospital. This captain will also create a New to THON Survival Guide for the families and will help organize and run the New Family Tour THON weekend. Additionally, he or she will expand the Families Helping Families program which pairs veteran families with new families.
This captain will act as a liaison to the Rules & Regulations Committee and will be an advocate of R&R and the rules of THON throughout the year. This position will work extensively on the Family Pass System and will make sure the Family Relations portion of the Rulebook is up-to-date and accurate. This captain will also present aspects of the Family Pass System to R&R committees to make sure they are well-versed in family interaction. Additionally, this captain will work to promote alternative fundraisers for Family Relations and coordinate all FR canning trips.
These captains will be responsible for FR’s involvement in the THON 5K and the Family Carnival. They will also be responsible for the planning and execution of Harvest Day, THON Hoops, THON Sluggers, and the Post-THON Celebration Picnic. These positions will be responsible for alerting the families of upcoming events, organizing RSVP’s, and helping plan events that will be kid-friendly and enjoyable for all families. Additionally, these positions will set up events for both toddlers and adults during THON weekend.
This captain is in charge of organizing the Penn State Wish Program for the Four Diamonds Families during THON weekend. This position will organize the No Grown Ups Allowed Room THON weekend as well. This captain will work throughout the year to secure contacts from organizations and donations for both of these events. This captain will also develop a THON Weekend Activity Book to be placed in the family welcoming bags as well as a modified activity project to be sent to Hershey in the fall.
This captain will be responsible for maintaining and improving the Families section on the THON website. They will serve as the liaison to the Technology Committee and will be responsible for the coding of the Family Webpages and coming up with new and creative ideas to make this section more family and kid-friendly. This captain will also work with Facebook and Twitter to keep families updated and in-the-know about all THON information. Additionally, this captain will be the liaison to the Public Relations Committee. He or she will be responsible for reaching out to families for media participation and ensuring the families interest and privacy is always protected.
This captain will organize the five Adopt-A-Family (AAF) Workshops that are held throughout the year. The purpose of the workshops is to help organizations build a strong relationship with their Four Diamonds Family. This captain will also be responsible for creating a modified workshop presentation to be displayed at a CCSG Council session. He or she will be in charge of creating the AAF organizations listserv and the AAF Angel Group to provide inspiration, information, and ideas to all organizations participating in AAF. Finally, this position will organize and run the weekly AAF meetings with the Family Relation’s AAF Liaison Captains.
Finance
Committee Color: Dark Green
The mission of the Finance Committee is to attain accurate totals of all monetary donations collected on behalf of THON. It is the responsibility of the Finance Committee to support the students and organizations of Penn State in both their fundraising efforts and the tracking of their monetary totals. Finance is also responsible for finalizing the THON Weekend total: a sum of the THON community’s year-long effort to raise money in support of the children, families, researchers, and staff of the Four Diamonds and the fight against pediatric cancer.
The Finance Captains are responsible for tracking THON’s total throughout the fundraising season. Captains work to count all monetary donations, manage checks and pledges, as well as assist THON Chairs and donors with all financial needs. Finance is the coordinator of Canning Drop Offs following the four fundraising weekends. Finance Captains also work in the THON Office weekly to aid in the tracking of daily donations.

This Captain will be responsible for all administrative duties that occur within the Finance Captain Committee. These duties include planning all aspects of Canning-Drop Off, which occur on the four Mondays following each canning weekends. This Captain will also be responsible for the general upkeep and organization of the office, taking meeting minutes for the Finance Captains weekly meetings, organizing Hershey Tours, gear, retreats, and the THON weekend timeline.

These Captains are responsible for tracking and depositing all alternative fundraisers and other cash donations that come into the office. They will work closely with Rules and Regulations Captains to ensure that all funds from fundraisers are received within the specified timeframe. These Captains will also be responsible for the upkeep of the safe and maintaining the alternative fundraiser spreadsheet and binder.

These two Captains are responsible for the tracking of all organization fundraising throughout the year. Responsibilities include updating organizations totals and donor information on THINK, and managing the treasurer@thon.org e-mail address, which will be a resource for THON Chairs who have questions about donations to their organization. This position is vital to the success of THON Finance, as these Captains will act as the main liaison between Finance and student organizations.

These captains will be responsible for tracking all corporate checks and seeing that they are properly entered into the database system. These captains will also be in charge of tracking corporate matching donations. They will be the main line of communication between Donor Relations and Finance.

This Captain is the main liaison between Finance and the Commonwealth Campuses. They will assist the Overall in communicating our messages and deadlines throughout the Commonwealth by sending out all necessary reminders to the Commonwealth THON chairs. They will also attend council weekends held for the Commonwealth THON Chairs to assist the chairs with any outstanding issues or donation collection. This person will be responsible for handling all checks and canning weekend money that is received from each campus.

These ten Captains are responsible for leading the Finance committee members. These Captains are in charge of teaching committee members about THON and keeping them involved through weekly meetings. With the help of their committees, these Captains will be in charge of gift and pledge entry both in meetings and during scheduled office hours. These committee Captains will help promote and inform their committees about all THON events throughout the year.

This Captain will be in charge of maintaining the Special Giving database and will send appropriate acknowledgements to donations made in memory of, on behalf of, or in honor of someone. Additionally, this Captain will be in charge of honoring all receipt requests for cash or fundraiser donations.

This Captain is responsible for tracking and recording all checks that are improperly marked. This person will work with the treasurers to keep them updated on all problem checks and will also contact organizations with any information regarding checks that were deemed to be a problem. This Captain will work in the office on checks and deposits throughout the THON year.

These two Captains will be the event planners and coordinators of Finance. They will organize Green Shirt Orientation as well as plan the Finance Games (a competition between each of the five Finance Committees). These Captains will also be responsible for planning intra-committee activities for the entire Finance Committee. Finally these Captains will assist in planning Finance’s involvement in Overall THON events throughout the year including 100 Days 'Til THON Celebration, THON Dodgeball, THON Skate, and the Family Carnival booth.

This Captain will work closely with the Merchandise Committee to manage the finances of the THON Store. This Captain should have a good understanding of basic finance and accounting concepts, as they will track and analyze all THON Store revenues and expenses throughout the year. They will also track sales and purchases made by the Store. Additionally, this person is responsible for tracking all revenues received from THON volunteers for on-shift shirts, 100 days shirts, and mail call shirts.

Hospitality

The Hospitality Committee strives to fuel THON through exceptional service and support for the families, dancers, and volunteers. We interact with the community and sponsors to strengthen THON by procuring donations for THON events throughout the year. Hospitality works to represent THON at all times with enthusiasm, passion, and commitment For The Kids!
The main responsibility of the THON Hospitality Committee is to acquire and serve all food and beverages during THON Weekend and at pre-THON events. Thus, many Captains will work to procure these donations and all Captains will serve them at various THON events. Each Hospitality Captain will be assigned a co-Captain and select a committee. They will run Committee meetings, train Committee Members, and prepare them for THON Weekend and other pre-THON events. In addition the Captains will be responsible for helping with other fun Hospitality events like Pink Shirt Orientation, Committee Retreat Day, and the Committee Competition. Each Captain will be responsible for numerous tasks during THON Weekend, including leading in the organization and execution of several meals.

This organized, motivated, and friendly Captain will work very closely with the Overall throughout the year. The Administrative Assistant is in charge of general tasks, such as recording attendance, taking minutes at all meetings, maintaining the Angel website for Hospitality, and scheduling intra-committee events. This Captain will collect and organize all contracts from all of the other Hospitality Captains, and will complete a document detailing each meal during all THON events, including the THON 5K, Family Carnival, and THON Weekend.
The Beverages Captain will work with a variety of large and local donors to acquire all of the beverage donations for THON Weekend and all of the pre-THON events. This Captain is also responsible for the placement of these beverages, and managing them throughout each event. This Captain must be outgoing, responsible, and able to adapt to the various situations that arise during the THON events.
The Committee Coordinator will be in charge of organizing all of the Hospitality Committees throughout the THON season and during THON Weekend. This highly creative, energetic, and friendly Captain will assist the Hospitality Captains in keeping each committee engaged throughout the THON season to ensure that all Committee Members have the best possible THON experience. Some events this Captain will organize include the Pink Shirt Orientation, Committee Retreat Day, 100 Days 'til THON, and Committee Competition. The Committee Coordinator will also be responsible for obtaining donations for THON weekend.
This organized, motivated, and patient Captain is responsible for the set up and management of the concession stands in the Bryce Jordan Center during THON weekend. They will work closely with the Bryce Jordan Center staff, Merchandise Committee, and Special Events Committee to organize all concessions sales for THON weekend and for some pre-THON basketball games. The Concessions Captain is responsible for maintaining each individual stand, and will work with the Bryce Jordan Center staff to schedule the training of Hospitality Committee Members who will operate the concessions stands during the THON events. This Captain will also work to acquire donations from various donors throughout the year.
This Captain must be innovative and entrepreneurial, as they will contact new businesses to make In-Kind food donations to THON. In addition to contacting perennial donors, they are responsible for fostering new donors and working with promotions to secure those relationships. The Development Captain has the unique opportunity to give new businesses in the area a chance to get involved. By finding new donations, this Captain starts the relationships that will help THON prosper in the future
The Donor & Alumni Relations Captain must be organized and professional, as he/she will be in charge of organizing all of the donor contracts from all of the Hospitality Captains and maintaining these contracts and their records in THINK. This Captain will also be responsible for planning the Donor Recognition Reception and University Recognition Reception, which is a networking event that happens THON Weekend. The Donor & Alumni Relations Captain will invite donors to THON events, and will work with Donor & Alumni Relations Committee and the Hospitality Captains to ensure that each donor receives the appropriate benefits for their donation to THON.
The Family Meals Captain must be professional, outgoing, and creative. The Family Meals Captain will maintain a positive working relationship with the Family Relations Committee throughout the year, as he/she will serve to bring the Four Diamonds Families' stories and inspiration to all of Hospitality. Also, this Captain will relay any requests from Family Relations to ensure that the families have the best THON experience possible. This Captain will maintain contact with donors who donate meals specifically for the Four Diamonds Families, and he/she will be in charge of setting up, decorating, and managing the South Annex during THON weekend.
These Captains must be professional, self-sufficient, and will motivated to acquire a multitude of vital Hospitality items. It is the Hospitality Needs Captains' responsibility to procure any item that is otherwise unable to be donated. One of these Captains will be in charge of working with the Nittany Co-Operative and the fraternity cooks to cover various miscellaneous food donations. The other Captain will be in charge of the 'Grocery Store Initiative' by maintaining contact with various grocers in the State College area and seeking donations for gift certificates.
This very creative, friendly, and motivated Captain is responsible for interviewing, training, and leading the Cadets, who will work to assist the Hospitality Captains throughout the THON season. This Captain will be in charge of holding regular meetings with not only their own Committee Members, but also with each committee’s Cadets. This Captain will create fun events and activities for these Committee Members, and prepare them for tasks they will perform throughout THON weekend and other pre-THON events. The Inter-Committee Liaison Captain will also have the task of updating the Hospitality Captains on the various assignments the Captain Committee completes during the year.
This Captain is responsible for coordinating Hospitality's efforts for the 5K, Family Carnival and THON Weekend. The Logistics Captain must be very organized, responsible, and must stay calm under pressure, as outside circumstances often adversely affect the timeline. This Captain will work closely with the Overall and the other Captains for each event to ensure that all of Hospitality understands the details of each event and every donation. The Logistics Captain will also serve as liaison to the Morale and Entertainment Captains to establish a Hospitality timeline congruent with the Overall THON timelines.
These Captains are in charge of soliciting the majority of food donations for all of the dancers and volunteers for THON weekend, as well as pre-THON events such as the FT5K and Family Carnival. These Captains will also be responsible for managing the Captain lounge THON weekend by keeping inventory, serving Captain meals, and restocking the Captain lounge when necessary. Each Captain will be responsible for contacting multiple companies throughout the year to procure donations for each event during the THON season.

These Captains should be friendly, outgoing, professional, and innovative. They are in charge of organizing promotions with local restaurants to benefit THON and to build strong relationships with the businesses in the State College community. They will be required to maintain our longstanding promotions, and encouraged to pitch creative new promotion ideas to both existing and new donors. They will also be in constant contact with the Public Relations and Communications Committees to come up with new and exciting ideas to get the entire THON community involved in our promotional events, and will work with the Finance Captains to coordinate the monetary totals raised at each event.
These Captains will obtain snack donations from many local restaurants and corporations. The donations received by the Snacks Captains are needed during pre-THON events and especially during THON Weekend to give dancers the extra energy boost they need during and between meals. They will be in charge of coming up with an original design for the Snack Shack and creating a video encouraging dancers to utilize it throughout THON weekend. The Snacks Captains will also be responsible for maintaining a clean and safe environment in the South Annex entranceway, and managing the Hospitality committee members working at the Snack Shack.
This Captain must be very organized, hard working, and must exercise good communication skills. They will act as liaison to both OPPerations and Supply Logistics Committees, as they continually update the inventory and supplies Hospitality needs for each event. Additionally, they will plan a layout of theHospitality storage area for THON Weekend and keep inventory of all stock. They are responsible for training the Hospitality Captains on how to use the kitchens and appliances, as well as how to maintain sanitation during THON Weekend. They will keep track of BJC items and utensils.
Merchandise
Committee Color: Light Pink
The mission of the Merchandise Committee is to support the Penn State IFC/Panhellenic Dance Marathon by spreading awareness and providing knowledge of THON and pediatric cancer through the sale of quality products. The Merchandise Committee is also committed to protecting the name of THON while contributing to the financial and emotional efforts For The Kids and the Four Diamonds Fund.
The Merchandise Captains promote awareness of THON and raise money For The Kids by running the THON Store at sales throughout the year, during THON Weekend and through online orders. They are also responsible for marketing the THON Store, designing new products, distributing 100 Days and THON Weekend on-duty shirts, and handling all licensing issues.

This captain must be highly motivated, flexible, and responsible. They will serve as the liaison to various THON Committees including, but not limited to, Donor and Alumni Relations and Supply Logistics in order to keep communication open to the Merchandise Committee. They will also be responsible for taking the minutes for the weekly Merchandise Captain Committee Meetings, sending Committee reminders, updating the Committee calendar, and creating the master Merchandise timeline for THON weekend. This captain will assist the overall in various responsibilities and serve as their right-hand.
This captain must be creative, organized, and outgoing. They will be in charge of creating a bond between both the Merchandise Committee and all THON Committees. They will be responsible for bringing inspiration to meetings and events, planning captain retreats, leading the Committee member orientation/s, and reaching out to all other THON Committees to show our appreciation for all that they do. Additionally, they will work with the Administrative Assistant on the THON weekend timeline, in order to come up with a unified gear timeline for the captain committee.
This captain must be both creative and artistic. They will be responsible for designing and ordering items to meet the Captain Committee’s clothing needs throughout the year and must be willing and able to work with our five licensed vendors. They will use their talents to develop a catalog for the THON Store as well as work with Marketing to design all advertising and promotional materials for the THON Store and it’s products. This captain works hand-in-hand with the Graphic Design Captains on the Public Relations Committee throughout the entire year. (A background in Adobe Photoshop, InDesign and/or Illustrator is encouraged, but not necessary).
These captains must be very organized and outgoing. They will be responsible for coordinating the ordering and distribution of the 100 Days t-shirts, THON Weekend On-Shift t-shirts, and any yearly specialty t-shirts. Additionally, these 2 captains will share a Committee of 15, and will work with the Training and Development captain to train their Committee Members to sort, distribute, and help at all THON Merchandise Sales.
This captain must be attentive to detail, organized, reliable, and creative. They will oversee all t-shirt designs for committees, organizations, etc. prior to the designs being submitted to one of our licensed vendors for production. If the submitted designs do not follow our regulations, they will offer some creative alternatives and ensure that the name and logo of the Penn State Dance Marathon is protected. Additionally, this captain will also be the contact for any committees or organizations needing assistance in creating their own t-shirt designs. They must be devoted to protecting the integrity of our logos and brands and maintain the licensing email account.
These captains must be both attentive to detail and creative. Each will serve as a specific Committee Liaison to the Communications, Entertainment, and Public Relations Committees, respectively. They will also be responsible for marketing the THON Store products and Merchandise sales, as well as spreading awareness about THON and the fight against pediatric cancer. Additionally, they will plan and execute the “Product of The Week” promotion every week and will relay that information to the appropriate captains. The Marketing captains work closely with the Creative Design captain.
These captains must be very attentive to detail and will be concerned with the logistics of the THON Store sales and the THON weekend stores. They will coordinate all HUB Sales and THON weekend plans including set up/tear down, work schedules, store layout, payment options, and product availability. Additionally, they will work closely with the Inventory captains and execute the preparations for each sale and event.
These captains must be highly motivated, organized, and creative. They will work closely with the Marketing captains to come up with and execute projects that spread awareness about pediatric cancer, THON, the Four Diamonds Fund, and the THON Store and its products. They will also work to develop additional new and creative avenues to raise more money and awareness For The Kids.
These Captains must be highly motivated, organized, and work well in a group dynamic. They are in charge of the day-to-day operations of the THON Store including keeping accurate inventory, filling and shipping orders, keeping all products organized, keeping products well stocked, as well as coordinating with Sales Management captains to make sales run as efficiently as possible.

This captain plays a major role in establishing standardized methods of preparing captains and committee members for all their responsibilities on a Merchandise Committee, including working HUB sales, filling orders, sorting, and distributing t-shirts. This captain will work hard at coming up with the most effective process for all committee responsibilities and will create a packet of step-by-step, easy to understand, directions. This captain will work closely with all Merchandise captains and the Finance committee.
This captain must be organized and skilled at working with a team. They will be in charge of overseeing the Online Store team, including the Inventory, Order Filling and Storage Captains. Specific responsibilities will include maintaining the THON Store email account and answering customer questions through phone or e-mail. They will also be responsible for working with the Technology Committee to make sure the THON Store website is kept up to date.

Morale
Committee Color: Yellow
The Mission of the Penn State IFC/Panhellenic Dance Marathon Morale Committee is to provide physical and emotional support for the Dancers THON Weekend. The Morale Committee also extends its energy and assistance to the THON Community throughout the entire year.
The Morale Captains strive to ensure that throughout the year, THON love and energy is being shared amongst all of those involved in the organization. Captains, along with their committees, promote different events and ensure the spirit of the THON community is constantly felt. Together with their committees, Captains also plan a variety of events to please every dancer during THON Weekend, including the WALK, Dancer Storage, Mail Call, the many Theme Hours and The Line Dance. Throughout the 46 hours, the Captains and Committee members are dedicated to the dancers, doing anything within their power to ensure the dancers finish the weekend.

This Captain is responsible for a variety of tasks, including: Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) and athletic trainer needs for pre-THON events and THON weekend, keeping contact between the Morale Captain Committee and various other THON Committees including, but not limited to Rules and Regulations, Special Events, Merchandise, Finance and Donor Relations. They will take minutes for the weekly Morale Captain Committee Meetings, and assist the overall in various responsibilities.
The Council of Commonwealth Student Governments Liaison is in charge of being the link between Morale and CCSG. They are responsible for helping to plan and execute a Theme Hour during THON Weekend in which all of the campuses can participate in. They will also assist in planning the CCSG Dancer Retreat in early February. They are in charge of knowing what CCSG is about and involving them as much as possible with Morale related events. They will work closely with the two CCSG Communications Captains.
The Color Wars Coordinator is responsible for the organization, publicity, and creativity of all things Color Wars, both pre-THON and THON Weekend. The coordinator will be in charge of planning the Color Wars Theme, Color Wars Kickoff, Color Wars Grand Finale, and ensuring that Color Wars is effective for the dancers throughout all of THON Weekend.
This person is responsible for making sure Dancers are going to be physically and emotionally ready for THON weekend by hosting Dancer Focus Groups, creating and distributing the Dancer Survival Guide, and matching every dancer with a Moraler for THON Weekend. This Captain will serve as Morale’s Communications Liaison to ensure these tasks are accomplished effectively. This Morale Captain is also in charge of working with the Logistics/Timeline Captain to help with the Overlapping Moraler System.
The Dancer Storage Captains have the task of making the storage areas for all 700+ Dancers as comfortable and enjoyable as possible, so that Dancers have the opportunity to get off the floor while still being entertained. They will be responsible for all of the logistics, organization, and activities in the storage areas along with creating decorations and a theme. These captains should be extremely organized, great with communication and also creative.
The Entertainment Liaison is in charge of working with the Morale Liaison from Entertainment to help coordinate events that will affect both Morale and Entertainment. They will also keep Morale informed on Entertainment’s decisions and help them always keep the Dancers’ best interest in mind and keep Entertainment informed on Morale’s decisions. Communication is very important because both Entertainment and Morale are making decisions that will affect the Dancers. This captain will collect and edit all power points, minute by minutes, and scripts that will be used at pre-THON events and during THON weekend. This Captain also will work closely with the Timeline / Logistics Captain and should be very detail oriented.
This Captain will be in charge of overseeing and creating all of the videos for Morale both Pre-THON and THON Weekend. These videos include the YSO Video and the Theme Hour Videos, amongst many others. Plus, they will work collaboratively with the Production Captains from Entertainment and the Line Dance Coordinator to help with the Line Dance Video. Final Cut Pro experience is helpful, but not necessary for the position.
This captain will be taking on the responsibility of two liaisons. This captain will work closely with the Morale Captain Committee to ensure that all of Morale’s events during both Pre-THON and THON Weekend are entirely kid-friendly. They will work to incorporate family and kid participation in as many Morale events as possible. This individual is also responsible for collecting and sorting Kids Mail, and executing Kids Mail Call during THON Weekend. Furthermore, he or she is responsible for the scheduling of Hershey Tours and Special Visitor's Trips for the Morale Captain Committee. In addition to FR responsibilities, this captain will be in charge of bringing the Morale captain committee together, by planning retreats, crashing other committees' meetings, and setting up meeting crashes for each Morale Committee. Another responsibility of this captain is to design and organize all of the Morale Captain Committee’s gear for Pre-THON and THON Weekend.
The DJ Captains are responsible for providing the energy of THON weekend throughout the entire year. They will be in constant communication with all THON committees in charge of internal pre-THON events as they will DJ those events while helping them in planning and running each event. Good communication and experience in DJing is highly encouraged for this position. These captains will work extremely closely with their co-captain along with the co-captains in their respective positions on Entertainment.
The role of the Line Dance Coordinator is to do just that: coordinate the Line Dance. This Captain is in charge of facilitating and brainstorming with the Morale Captain Committee, coordinating the music selection process, and working to understand beats and movement. These steps lead up to the Line Dance Retreat, which the LDC will coordinate and run in conjunction with the FR/Intra-Committee Liaison. After the retreat, this individual works to run Line Dance Practices in the Spring to teach the Line Dance to the Morale Captain Committee, the Overall THON Committee, and all Captains, and Committee Members. This individual is also responsible for teaching the Line Dance THON weekend. This captain should have exceptional organization skills.
The Logistics / Timeline Liaison is responsible for meeting with the Timeline Captain and the Morale Liaison from the Entertainment Committee to schedule all of the Morale theme hours, random events, and large events (Line Dances, WALK, Mail Call, etc.) They will also help to coordinate committee shifts as well as dancer storage shifts for Moralers. They will attend weekly Timeline meetings alongside the Morale Overall to coordinate the schedule of THON weekend with other committees. The Logistics / Timeline Captain will also work with the Dancer Relations Captain on the Overlapping Moraler System. Someone with Microsoft Excel skills, who likes problem solving and logic puzzles is tremendously helpful, but not necessary.
The role of the two Mail Call Captains is to collect, sort, organize and distribute all Dancer mail. These Captains also publicize Mail Call and the process of sending mail for THON Weekend. These Captains will work on building relationships with University Staff who assist Morale with Mail Call.
The responsibility of the OPP/R&R Liaison is to work with all of the respective liaisons to fulfill the needs of both Morale and the respective committee. They will work with their liaison on OPP in order to fulfill construction requests and floor plans for each Morale event, and enforce BJC rules placed by OPP. They will work with Rules and Regulations in order to protect the BJC during Morale Events, and also be able to communicate during THON Weekend to handle capacity issues, amongst others. During the year they will facilitate effective relationships between the committees.
The role of the Supply Logistics / Hospitality Liaison is to work with their liaison counterparts to request ALL the needs that Morale requires. This individual will educate the Morale Captain Committee on how to request needs for the numerous events Morale runs. They will help categorize the importance of every Morale request and see to it that the most important items are obtained. This individual works very closely with everyone on the Morale Captain Committee. This position has responsibilities that are Pre-THON, THON Weekend, and Post-THON.
The role of the three THON Weekend Development Captains is to take on the task of creating the WALK, along with new THON weekend events. These captains will create the magical, mystical world known as the WALK, in which they will choose a theme, request supply needs, and coordinate the WALKs that occur THON weekend. All three of these captains will also oversee their Moralers with the planning, preparation, and presentation of both the WALK and other new events both Pre-THON and THON weekend. They will work very closely with each other on all events and should be creative and willing to take on a new event and make it their own.
The role of the Yellow Shirt Relations Captain is to help all of Morale reach their fullest potential as Moralers through different projects during the year. These projects include Yellow Shirt Orientation, All Morale Pow Wow, Morale Mix it Up, and the Yellow Shirt Survival Guide. This captain will also be in charge of Moraling 101 starting the second semester in order to educate all of Morale for THON weekend. These events and projects are Pre-THON and are aimed to make sure that during THON Weekend Moralers are prepared and excited to take care of their dancers.
OPPerations

The mission of the OPPerations committee is to create and maintain a healthy and safe environment for the Four Diamonds Families and the rest of the THON community. Through great dedication and hard work, the OPPerations committee logistically plans and prepares for a year of events culminating in the transformation of the Bryce Jordan Center into THON’s home.
OPPerations Captains will work hard all year long to logistically plan and prepare for all pre-THON events, culminating in THON Weekend where we transform the Bryce Jordan Center into the home of the largest student-run philanthropy in the world. Much of the work OPP does is behind the scenes and is essential for a fun and safe THON. OPP Captains are responsible for setting up, maintaining and tearing down all THON events with the help of their Lieutenant Captains and Committee Members. Come THON Weekend, OPP Captains will ensure that for all 46 hours, the dancers, families, and volunteers are safe and enjoying the magic of THON. A strong work ethic and positive attitude are essential to OPP’s success because it consists of a lot of physical but extremely rewarding hard work. With their inspiration and dedication, OPP Captains will work to bring together a committee of 35 enthusiastic volunteers. OPP is embodied by our motto: “We come first, we leave last!”

This Captain should have a great deal OPP knowledge. This person will be of direct assistance to the Overall. They will serve as the liaison to every Captain on the committee by attending meetings and providing insight when needed. This Captain will coordinate The Big Move and Big Return THON Weekend. In addition, they will serve as an assistant to the SU/TD Captains, being part of the planning process. This Captain must be driven and have understanding of all that goes into planning all pre-THON and THON Weekend events.
These Captains will be in charge of raising the spirits of the hardworking OPP Committee Members. They will organize and lead both OPPeration: Orientation and Blue Shirt Workshop. In addition, these Captains will manage OPP Spirit Points. These captains must be creative, outgoing and ready to embrace the OPP spirit in the planning and directing of their two big events.
This Captain will be in charge of coordinating fundraising events within the OPP Committee such as planning canning trips, letter writing campaigns, and alternative fundraising. It is important that this person is organized and timely, as they will be dealing with finances throughout the year. This Captain will also lead Happy Quarters for the captain committee, and will work to keep the committee inspired and motivated through sharing inspirational stories and videos to remind us all why we are here. They will also be in charge of creating the “OPP Survival Guide” for committee members.
These Captains will have the task of planning two all-OPP committee member events: OPP Airbands and OPP Olympics. These captains will also be in charge of writing the OPP Committee-wide Newsletter, which will be sent out to all OPP Committee members on a regular basis, as well as updating the OPP Twitter account daily. These captains must be creative, outgoing, and prepared to work hard. This is this position’s second year and requires great dedication in order to maintain success.
These Captains will take the lead in designing and building event requests from the other Committees. It is essential for these Captains to have good skills with tools and construction and also organization. They will work closely with other committees to build safe and fun games and structures for events throughout the year and THON weekend.
This Captain will work closely with Entertainment, Hospitality, and Special Events Committees to relay all necessary information between our Committees. This person will help work to help with the logistical planning of events such as the Family Carnival, the THON 5K as well as various THON weekend events and activities. This captain will organize inter-committee events to encourage friendships amongst the captain committees and positive communication at THON events.
This Captain will have the important job of organizing events throughout the year for the OPPerations Captain Committee. This Captain will plan the OPP Captain retreats as well as fun activities for the OPP Captains to bond and meet other captain committees. This Captain will also be in charge of creating and ordering the THON gear for OPP Captains.
This Captain’s main responsibility will be organizing and running OPP Lt. Captain meetings throughout the year and preparing the Lt. Captains for THON Weekend. This person will create fun events for the Lt. Captains to attend and also create relationships between captains and Lt’s. Additionally, this Captain will aid the Setup/Tear Down Captain with preparing the Lt’s for pre-THON and THON Weekend events.
These Captains will have various responsibilities year-round including managing floorplans for the BJC and for pre-THON events. These Captains will work with many different Captains and Committees throughout the year to help devise efficient layouts for the events. They will also help with planning of Mat Cleanings.
This Captain will be the main contact for all communication with the Morale Committee throughout the year. This will include managing construction requests alongside the Construction Captains, organizing events planned for THON weekend, and working with Rules & Regulations in planning RYB Roundtables. This person must be very engaging and organized to ensure smooth communication and work between Morale and OPP.
This Captain is in charge of organizing and promoting the Four Diamonds Recycling Effort (4DRE) throughout the THON community. They will be responsible for marketing and executing the 4DRE movement. This Captain with work with University contacts, THON organizations and their 4DRE Committee year-round to bring awareness to 4DRE with their motto: “For The Kids, For The Planet”.
This captain will work to facilitate all communications between OPP and the Rules & Regulations committee. This includes passing on information to the OPP Captains about safety during THON events and fundraising activities. This Captain will have the responsibility of planning and leading all of the floor moppings throughout THON Weekend with assistance from other committees. This Captain will also work with the Morale Liaison to effectively plan RYB Roundtables.
These Captains are responsible for the planning and execution of OPP’s largest duties. This Captain will work with OPP Captains and many other Committees to prepare smooth setup and tear downs for events all year, culminating with THON Weekend. It is essential for these Captains to have terrific collaborative planning skills, good knowledge of THON events and the Bryce Jordan Center.
This captain is in charge of OPP’s glory event – Slides of Strength! This Captain will pick the theme, create a video with the help of the ENTertainment committee, and secure sponsors for the SOS so that come THON Weekend the dancers have a wonderful time and a chance to get off their feet and on the ground for a quick massage. This Captain must be creative and full of energy so that they are able to pick up the spirits of all of the dancers and participants.
This Captain will serve as a crucial link between the Supply Logistics and OPP Committees. They will organize OPP’s inventory and supply areas and work with SL to obtain all of OPP’s needs throughout the year. In addition, this Captain will work with the Set Up/Tear Down and Ultimate Admin in planning The Big Movie, SU/TD, and The Big Return. THON Weekend this Captain will be responsible for monitoring all supplies in the BJC. This Captain must be extremely organized and timely with all of their tasks.
This Captain will have the important task of arranging the OPP timeline for THON Weekend. They will work alongside the OPP Overall at the timeline meetings with other Committees to plan out the best THON Weekend possible. In addition they will be responsible for creating each OPP Captain’s “OPP Handbook” for THON Weekend. This Captain must be very organized and have the knowledge and ability to organize events logistically and create the best THON possible.
Public Relations

The mission of the Public Relations Committee is to conquer pediatric cancer by serving as the voice of THON to those outside of the Penn State Community. This Committee strives to educate the public about The Four Diamonds Fund, pediatric cancer, and the Penn State IFC/Panhellenic Dance Marathon on a local, state, and national level.
The Public Relations Committee helps THON by spreading awareness about pediatric cancer, THON Weekend, and The Four Diamonds Fund, outside of the THON and the Penn State Community. We continue to promote THON’s mission of conquering pediatric cancer by informing new and different sources, while ensuring that our current donors, supporters, and volunteers remain informed. In order to continue THON’s increasing growth, it is critical for the Public Relations Committee to find creative outlets for event planning and promotions, as well as establishing new contacts that will help advertise our cause and encourage others to become more involved.

The Administrative Assistant is the foremost aid to the Public Relations Overall. This Captain will mediate and manage requests from other Committees and record meeting minutes. Additionally, this Captain will serve as the Intra-Committee Liaison responsible for delegating Committee projects and tasks. One of the most unique and important responsibilities of the Administrative Assistant is to provide weekly inspiration for the Public Relations Committee. Applicants should be very organized, motivated, and communicative.
The Social Media Captains will work to spread awareness about pediatric cancer, The Four Diamonds Fund, and THON through the use of social media. These Captains will explore the expanding world of social communication through mobile and web-based technologies to increase publicity. Social Media Captains will manage THON's Facebook and Twitter accounts, update the THON blog, and research new media channels. Applicants should be creative and have strong computer and communication skills. One of these Captains will also serve as a liaison to the Technology Committee.

The Events Management Captains are responsible for planning and executing several exciting THON events including, but not limited to 100 Days ‘til THON and the Mr. and Mrs. THON Pageant. Additionally, these Captains will help with events exclusively for the Public Relations Committee. They will lead a committee that will help to plan and run each event. Applicants should be very organized, willing to delegate responsibilities, and able to create detailed plans for future events. Creativity is also important, as these Captains will be expected to include their own unique flair to each event. One of these Captains will serve as liaison to the Supply Logisitics Committee.
The Graphic Design Captains will have the chance to create and plan all graphics, logos, and promotional materials for THON 2013. These Captains will be responsible for communicating with other Captains and Overalls to collect and fulfill all graphic design requests. They will also work closely with the Publication Management Captains to create the annual THON Weekend program. As a result, applicants should be organized, creative, and efficient, as they may work on several projects at once. Finally, applicants should be proficient in several graphic design programs (Adobe Photoshop, InDesign, and Illustrator are a must-CS4 and above is preferred).

The Media Relations Captains will be the main point of contact between THON and members of the press on the local, state and national levels. Each Captain will be assigned various contacts whom they will keep in contact with regularly throughout the year. Responsibilities of the Media Relations Captains include communicating with various media outlets, brainstorming new pitch angles, and collaborating to create and send well-written press releases. These Captains will work to increase the coverage of pediatric cancer, The Four Diamonds Fund and THON. Finally, this position requires excellent interpersonal skills, persistence, and the ability to create and maintain outstanding professional relations. Any experience writing news articles or press releases will greatly benefit you in this position, but is not required. Two of these Captains will also serve as liaisons to Family Relations and Rules & Regulations..

The Photography Captains will capture images throughout the upcoming THON season. These Captains will be responsible for the photography of all THON events, keeping track of shot lists and image concepts from Overalls and Captains, and the photo archives. They will also lead a committee that will help them shoot, edit, and organize photographs. A strong background with photography, especially digital photography, is crucial. Applicants should also have great organizational and leadership skills, and display creativity.
The Publication Management Captains will design and layout all publications produced by the Public Relations Committee including the annual THON Weekend Program. Theses Captains will work closely with the Graphic Design Captains throughout the year on various publications. Applicants should be highly motivated, creative, and proficient in graphic design and layout programs (Adobe InDesign and Photoshop--CS4 and above is preferred). Finally, experience in publication planning or layout would be extremely helpful in this position.
The Street Teams Captains will develop, plan, and execute several unique marketing campaigns that will be displayed around State College and beyond. These Captains will lead a Committee that will play an integral role in spreading awareness about pediatric cancer, The Four Diamonds Fund, and THON. Street Teams Captains will work to increase awareness and to help garner new public support, while continuing to inform THON donors and volunteers. Applicants should be very efficient, organized, and innovative.
The Alternative Media Captain will work closely with the Events Management, Street Teams, Social Media and Media Relations Captains to plan and execute nontraditional marketing strategies. This Captain is also responsible for but not limited to planning the THON presentation at a home football game and guerrilla or nontraditional marketing events. Applicants should be communicative, organized and innovative.

The Rules and Regulations committee is devoted to providing safety and security to the families and kids by creating an infrastructure of love and support. The leaders in red will wholeheartedly care for the cause with the determination necessary to protect the integrity of and ensure the future of THON.
The Rules and Regulations Committee prevents and responds to breaches in safety and security at a number of events including the THON 5K, Family Carnival, and THON Weekend. With Rules and Regulations present, families, dancers, and spectators can feel at ease knowing help is just around the corner. Efforts of the Committee span from regulating security within the Bryce Jordan Center to registering guests through the event Pass Access System to educating the student body on safe and effective solicitation practices. Most of all, Rules and Regulations strives to create a strong sense of community while ensuring the prosperity of THON For The Kids.

This Captain is responsible for organizing and updating all Captain information as well as recording minutes at all Rules and Regulations Captain meetings. In addition to relaying important information to Rules and Regulations through weekly updates, the Administrative Assistant helps manage the ANGEL website and shared calendar where all documents and event dates are available. This Captain also aids the Overall Chairperson in small projects leading up to and during THON Weekend. The Administrative Assistant will work with the Training and Development Captain to create a Rules and Regulations Newsletter. Possible skills that would benefit a member in this position would include: organization, proficiency in Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
These Captains are responsible for approving and coordinating alternative fundraisers planned by all fundraising organizations. The Alternative Fundraising Captains ensure the correct rules are followed and actions are taken when aiding organizations in their alternative fundraiser planning. Each Captain works extensively with the Communications, Donor and Alumni Relations, and Finance Committees. In addition, three of the Captains will have more hands on interaction with the Organizations while one will follow up with these Organizations to make sure that any and all Alternative Fundraisers are completed in compliance with the rules set forth in the 2012 Rulebook and Alternative Fundraising guidelines. They are also responsible for attending CCSG Council Weekends as well as other fundraising organization events and meetings. Possible skills that would benefit a member in this position would include: proficiency in Excel, ability to communicate with organizations as well as other Captain committees.
These Captains plan and execute a number of spirited projects and activities for the welfare of the Rules and Regulations Committee. Committee Relations arranges all social events, fundraising efforts, and apparel needs specific to the Captain Committee. These Captains also reach out to other Committees for bonding activities and fulfill a number of special projects including Captain retreats and the Family Carnival booth. Possible skills that would benefit a member in this position would include: creativity, an ability to plan and problem solve, ability to communicate with other Captain committees.
These Captains are responsible for preparing and conducting the registration sessions for all dancers. They are also responsible for drafting all documentation used for dancer registration, planning the logistics of the registration sessions, training Rules and Regulations Captains on the use of the online registration system, and responding to dancer candidates‘ questions and concerns. Dancer Registration Captains work closely with the Technology Committee. Possible skills that would benefit a member in this position would include: organization, proficiency in Excel, ability to communicate with Organizations and other Captain Committees.
This Captain is responsible for all Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) and athletic trainer needs for pre-THON events and THON Weekend. The EMS Captain collects dancer information, assembles dancer bracelets, and sets up the triage room for THON Weekend. This Captain will be paired with a Morale EMS Captain to fulfill all dancer and general public safety needs. Possible skills that would benefit a member in this position would include: organization, proficiency in Excel, ability to communicate with Organizations and other Captain Committees.
This Captain coordinates pre-THON and THON Weekend events with other liaisons on the Entertainment, Public Relations, and Family Relations Committees. As a Rules and Regulations representative in weekly timeline meetings, the Entertainment, Public Relations, and Family Relations Liaison plays a vital role in communicating safety and security matters for all events. This Captain will work with the PASS team to better coordinate Passes for these other committees and work to educate the Rules and Regulations Committee of others’ concerns as well. This Captain also shares weekly inspirational Four Diamonds Family stories provided by the Family Relations Committee and helps coordinate Penn State Hershey Children‘s Hospital tours and special visitor trips for Rules and Regulations Captains. Possible skills that would benefit a member in this position would include: organization, proficiency in Excel, ability to communicate with Organizations and other Captain Committees.
This Captain is responsible for coordinating all parking and delivery aspects for THON events and working with the Penn State Parking Office, Police Services, and Office of Physical Plant. The Event Parking Captain also works on drafting parking maps and routes and collaborates with the Entertainment, Hospitality, and OPPerations Committees to create a comprehensive THON delivery timeline. Major events requiring parking and delivery coordination are the THON 5K, Family Carnival, and THON Weekend. This Captain will work to create parking an experience for the children and their families. Possible skills that would benefit a member in this position would include: organization, creativity, ability to communicate with Organizations and other Captain Committees.
These Captains are responsible for educating student organizations on safe fundraising practices. Fundraising Safety assists organizations in obtaining permits for canister solicitation locations, collects data from post-fundraising reports and helps enforce penalties for protocol violations. Fulfilling these responsibilities also involves researching solicitation codes of conduct in municipalities outside of Centre County and monitoring and recording incidents during fundraising weekends. Possible skills that would benefit a member in this position would include: organization, proficiency in Excel, ability to communicate with Organizations and other Captain Committees.
This Captain coordinates pre-THON and THON Weekend functions with other liaisons on the Morale, OPPerations, and Supply Logistics Committees. Specifically, this Liaison leads inter-committee roundtable discussions, communicates THON Weekend safety and security matters with OPPerations and Morale, and reports and acquires all Rules and Regulations supply requests. This liaison will help to educate RYB (Rules and Regulations, Morale, OPPerations) and, in doing so, will help to better the Captain and Committee Member experience. Possible skills that would benefit a member in this position would include: organization, creativity, ability to communicate with Organizations and other Captain Committees.
These Captains work very closely with the Technology Committee. Paired with a Technology Captain to effectively train and empower a Pass Team Committee, each Captain is responsible for managing the Pass System for THON Weekend and Family Carnival venue access. In preparation for these events, Captains will conduct Pass Simulations, monitor pass lists, and design passes. It will be a priority for Pass Team Captains to streamline the pass distribution and collection process for THON Weekend. To best lead the Pass Team through preparation and training, one of these Captains will not have a Committee or Technology Co-Captain. Possible skills that would benefit a member in this position would include: organization, proficiency in Excel, ability to communicate with Organizations and other Captain Committees. Some experience with technology may be useful, but not necessary.
These Captains are responsible for motivating Committee members to reach their fullest potential. Exceedingly creative and exceptionally enthusiastic, Redshirt REVAMP coordinates a number of spirited events including Red Shirt Orientation, Redshirt Remix (a dance competition), and Regulator Wars (more physical competitions) and will work to inspire Committee Members by boosting morale and incentivizing team-building events. Possible skills that would benefit a member in this position would include: music editing, proficiency in PowerPoint, high energy and creativity.
These Captains are responsible for orchestrating the entire security infrastructure during THON Weekend. Security Captains‘ biggest task is training Captains and Committee members on the rules and regulations enforced in the BJC. These Captains meet frequently to draft the Security Brief for THON Weekend, create BJC zones, coordinate shift assignments, and meet with Committee Security Leaders to make certain that all of Rules and Regulations is ready for THON weekend to uphold Rules and Regulations’ mission. To best lead the Security Team through preparation and training, one of these Captains will not have a Committee. Possible skills that would benefit a member in this position would include: organization, proficiency in PowerPoint and Excel, ability to communicate with Organizations and other Captain Committees.
These Captains are responsible for equipping all fundraising organizations with solicitation materials for fundraising weekends. Solicitation Captains plan can-cleaning events at the OPP Recycling Plant and lead materials distribution sessions. These Captains also consistently track inventory and ensure that organizations are aware of all solicitation rules. Possible skills that would benefit a member in this position would include: organization, ability to communicate with Organizations and other Captain Committees.
This Captain plays a major role in establishing standardized methods of preparing Committees for the guest relations aspect of THON Weekend and organizing Rules and Regulations Committee Member Workshop(s). The Training and Development Captain also develops communications that instruct THON organizations and other THON Committees in all safety and security aspects, including proper canister solicitation and THON weekend behavior. While conveying a vision of helping Rules and Regulations positively progress forward, this multi-faceted responsibility will require frequent collaboration with other Captains. Possible skills that would benefit a member in this position include: creativity, ability to communicate with other Captains, Committee Members, and Organizations, proficiency in PowerPoint.
This Captain is responsible for developing strategies for improving current fundraising practices. Their main responsibility will be outreach and collaboration with organizations to inform and assist them with the fundraising regulations. They will also be focusing on improving data tracking and utilization practices. This position will require projects to be completed during the summer in coordination with the Overall Rules and Regulations Chairperson. Due to the increased responsibility of this position they will not have a committee. Possible skills that would benefit a member in this position would include: organization, proficiency in PowerPoint and Excel, ability to communicate with Organizations and other Captain Committees.

This Captain is responsible for leading the Security Captains in orchestrating the entire security infrastructure during THON weekend. This Captain’s main responsibility will be evaluating the current security structure to identify areas for improvement. This position will require projects to be completed during the summer in coordination with the Overall Rules and Regulations Chairperson. In order to best lead the Security Team, this Captain will not have a committee. Possible skills that would benefit a member in this position would include: organization, proficiency in Excel, ability to communicate with Organizations and other Captain Committees. This Captain is responsible for leading the Pass Team in development of the Pass System for THON weekend. The main responsibility of this Captain will be collaborating with the Technology Committee and the Pass Team to organize efforts for the successful implementation and execution of the Pass System during THON weekend. This position will require projects to be completed during the summer in coordination with the Overall Rules and Regulations Chairperson and the Technology Committee. In order to best lead the Pass Team, this Captain will not have a committee. Possible skills that would benefit a member in this position would include: organization, proficiency in PowerPoint and Excel, ability to communicate with Organizations and other Captain Committees.

Special Events

The mission of the Special Events Committee is to inspire, inform, and unite the THON community by developing and continuing a variety of events to spread the spirit and mission of THON year-round. Special Events is committed to creating year-round support and awareness for the children, families, researchers and staff of the Four Diamonds Fund as well as the entire THON community. For The Kids!
The Special Events Captain Committee seeks to maintain excitement in the THON community as a year-round philanthropy through planning and executing the annual THON 5K, Family Carnival, and the Road To THON Celebration and other innovative events developed throughout the year while ensuring the spirit of THON is felt at all times. Special Events also in charge of the THON Museum displayed THON Weekend.

This person will be the ultimate contact for every committee, except Supply Logistics, Family Relations, and Entertainment and is responsible for ordering all gear for the Special Events Captain Committee. They will also work with me to make the THON Weekend timeline. This captain should be very organized and a good communicator.

These captains will be in charge of overseeing the logistics and planning of hair donation events as well as increasing awareness of hair loss due to pediatric cancer treatment and how one can help. They will also work with Wigs For Kids as their contact for donating the hair collected throughout the year, including THON Weekend.

Each person will have a committee of approximately 30 Special Events Committee Members. Creative Inspiration Captains plan and execute Arts and Crafts week for both the 5K and Family Carnival. These captains are in charge of leading weekly committee meetings and inspiring committee members throughout the year. They also plan Maroon Shirt Orientation and Diamond Crusades for the Special Events Committee Members. These Captains will lead committees in working concessions and selling raffle tickets THON Weekend. These Captains should be able to speak in front of large groups and should be very personable.

These captains will work to create and/or continue events throughout the year which unify the THON community as well as the Special Events Committee, such as the THON Museum, SE Shake-Up, and the THON Treasure Hunt. These Captains should think outside the box and have good logistical skills to execute the foundation of the events. They will be responsible for new event layouts, timelines and minute by minutes. These Captains should possess determination and creative thinking.

The Family Carnival Captains are responsible for planning of the event, the development of the theme, and management of the carnival booths. These Captains must work closely together with other Special Events Captains, THON committees, and THON Chairs of student organizations in regards to their roles within the event. Effective communication, organization, and leadership experience are necessary for this position.

The Road To THON Celebration is an event that culminates the year’s hard work and prefaces the highly anticipated THON Weekend to come. These Captains will work closely with the Special Events Overall in deciding on meals, decorations, ticket sales, and timeline of the night. They will also assist in the creation and distribution of the invitations and answering any questions the student body has about the dinner. These Captains must be available all day long on the date of the dinner. Organization, creativity, great communication skills, and attention to detail are essential to this position.

This captain will be in charge of working with Entertainment Production captains on the THON 5K, Family Carnival, Road To THON Celebration, Hair Donation, and THON Idol videos. This captain will also work closely with both THON Weekend Captains and various Entertainment Captains to ensure a great THON Weekend experience for everyone.

This captain is responsible for going over all permanent supply lists and making and adding changes on THINK. They also work very closely with the Creative Inspiration Captains and their committees, ensuring that the supplies for each and every one of our events are available and ready. This position requires someone who is extremely organized, works well with other committees, and has basic computer/technical knowledge.

These two captains are in charge of any new Special Events that will be developed throughout the year that occur THON weekend, such as THON Idol. They will involve the crowd and dancers in events to keep our supporters entertained. These captains should have bright and out-going personalities and will not shy away in front of large groups of people. These captains will work very closely with the Entertainment Liaison as well as various Entertainment Captains to ensure the best THON Weekend experience for everyone.

Both captains are in charge of the annual THON 5K, which is the only fundraising event directly executed by the THON committees. They will work on not only the logistics of the event with the Overall Committee, but also oversee the marketing for the THON 5K. These Captains must work with the Decoration Captains in order to create decorations for the event. These Captains must be able to work well under pressure. One captain will also be in charge of overseeing Special Event’s committee relations by planning both Captain Retreats and various committee bonding activities. The other captain will be in charge of providing the committee with inspiration at every meeting, scheduling tour trips and Special Visitor’s trips to the Penn State Hershey Medical Center, and serve as the main liaison for the Family Relations Committee.

Supply Logistics
Committee Color: Lime Green
It is the mission of the Supply Logistics Committee to serve The Penn State IFC/Panhellenic Dance Marathon by acquiring all in-kind donations for THON Weekend and all THON events. It is our goal to help THON continue its monetary and emotional contribution to The Four Diamonds Fund by ensuring that each Committee receives the supplies they need, while spreading knowledge of THON and pediatric cancer to every donor we come in contact with during the journey.
Supply Logistics is responsible for obtaining all in-kind donations for all events and activities leading up to and including THON Weekend. This Committee allows Captains to spread their passion of THON to every donor they contact, as well as spread awareness of THON's mission to conquer pediatric cancer to donors that range from small businesses to big corporations. Through this Committee we acquire the supplies needed to make THON happen from plates to feed the dancers to transforming the walk to toys for the kids to play with. In addition, Supply Logistics is also in charge of events like the THON Raffle, The Student Book Store promotion, and Dancer Bags. We work hard year round to maintain strong relationships with our donors, and contact new ones to get all the supplies needed to make THON events possible. Supply Logistics is a great Committee if you love to share your passion of THON with someone who may have never heard of our mission.

This person will be the right hand to the Overall. They will help with general tasks like taking minutes and managing communication within the Committee. They will work with the Overall to plan all Captain Retreats and keep the Committee inspired all year. This Captain will oversee the Gift Card Initiative, which means they will work with major chains such as Wal-Mart and Target to get gift cards that can be used to help purchase any last minute supplies at pre-THON events and THON Weekend. They also will make sure all donations made by the Captains, the Overall, and other Committees are being tracked and benefited correctly. It is important for this person to be very organized, neat and good at multi-tasking.

These Captains will work directly with donors to secure the supplies needed for pre-THON and THON Weekend events. They are a representative of THON to the community and for many donors it will be the first time they hear about THON and its mission. They will spread THON’s message and knowledge of pediatric cancer. They will work throughout the year to form professional relationships with these donors. This will involve speaking with managers and representatives of companies both on a large and small scale. They will have to clearly, quickly and effectively explain THON, its mission, and the reason for a donation. They will build relationships with new donors that will benefit future years and keep previous relationships strong. These Captains should be creative to find new donors, professional in making deals, and enthusiastic in sharing their passion of THON! These Captains will be broken down into the following sub-categories:

- House Wares, Cleaning, & Medical Supplies
- Paper & Office Supplies
- Paint, Hardware, and Lumber

- Toys, Games, & Sporting Goods

These Captains will form a small focus group within the Committee that will handle all communication to outside Committees. They will be in charge of keeping track of supplies and requests from start to finish to make sure every Committee has what they need in order to make their event a success. They will also be in charge of organizing Supply Logistics storage facilities and keeping an accurate inventory of what THON has. They will be experts on what has been requested, stored, and distributed to make sure THON has accurate records. They will also manage and upkeep the supply request system on THINK. These Captains need to be very organized and extremely good at communicating. It is their job to ensure that every Committee is represented and that all of their concerns are heard.

These Captains will concentrate on the events that Supply Logistics runs as a Committee. They will plan the logistics of the THON Raffle, The SL Garage Sale, and Dancer Bags. These Captains will work heavily with Public Relations and SL Captains to promote the THON Raffle. They will track ticket sales and credit them to organizations throughout the year. They will also work to secure donations for the mini-Raffle and dancer bags along with creating the Raffle video. These Captains needs to be dedicated, hard-working and creative to take the THON Raffle to new heights and ensure the success of SL’s events throughout the year FTK!

Technology
Committee Color: Safety Green
The mission of the Technology Committee is to assist the other thirteen Committees by providing effective and efficient technical solutions and support to aid in the mission of The Penn State IFC/Panhellenic Dance Marathon of conquering pediatric cancer. Technology strives to take advantage of the latest technologies to spread awareness of pediatric cancer and The Four Diamonds Fund.
Every Committee in THON uses technology in some way, and the Technology Committee is there to make sure all of THON's gadgets still work. Tech is responsible for the administration of the THON Store website, the Pass System, THINK, and of course THON.org. Oh, and we do the 5K Robots. Being on Tech will give you great experience with technology and a unique view of all different aspects of THON.

The THINK developers are responsible for the continued development of THON's Information NetworK (THINK) and database. THINK is an information management system designed to reduce mistakes and administrative overhead within THON. Dancer registration, organization management, and donor tracking are a few of the key components to THINK. THINK developers should have strong knowledge of dynamic web development and the ability to learn on-the-fly. They will also act as the main points of contact between Technology and other committees in THON. Familiarity with PHP development and MySQL databases is a plus.

The Technology Committee is responsible for the development and maintenance of THON's website, www.thon.org. With more than a quarter million page views per month, THON.org is an important point of reference for those inside and outside of THON. Developers should have experience with dynamic web development and a will to learn. Knowledge of DRUPAL, PHP, XML, and MySQL is a plus, but not mandatory.

The Pass System is a web application used to control access to the floor during THON weekend. Working closely with their Rules & Regulations counterparts, the Pass Team will develop new implementation plans and processes for the Pass System to ensure short and fast lines during THON weekend. Knowledge of PHP, MySQL, and Networking is a plus, but the only requirement is the desire to learn it.

The Administrative Assistant is responsible for taking minutes at meetings, posting information to the ANGEL group, handling pre-THON events, arranging socials with other committees, and planning AWESOME activities. Additionally, the Administrative Assistant may work with the other Tech Liaisons on inter-committee projects. The special assistant should be reliable, outgoing, motivated, creative and fun!

The Networking/PASS Developer Captain will be responsible for setting up any networks required for THON events throughout the year: most notably, the THON 5K and THON Weekend. These networks are needed to run the many systems that require a reliable Internet connection – the pass tables, the blog station, etc. Additionally, the Networking/PASS Developer Captain will work with the PASS development team. Programming knowledge is a plus, but the only requirement is the desire to learn it.

This Captain postion will be tasked with running the PASS System and leading the 4 other developers in charge of it. This person should be motivated, willing to learn, and be able to display strong communication skills. Leadership and an ability to manage a development team are also essential to this position. It is advisable to have some knowledge of MySQL, PHP, and networking, but none of these are requirements -- only a willingness to learn!

This Captain position will serve as a dynamic part of the Technology Committee's future. Working on the THON App and other emerging technologies will be a key part of this Captain's responsibility. A solid knowledge of development is a plus, but only a desire to learn is needed!

This Captain will work closely with Merchandise, Finance, and the THON.org development team to maintain and improve the THON Store. This store is the main gateway for all THON merchandise that is sold throughout the year. This Captain should be motivated, dedicated, and willing to learn on the fly. Prior web development is a plus for this position, but not a requirement!
