As a student, there are so many ways to get involved in THON. There are approximately 15,000 students that participate in the Penn State Dance Marathon each year. Without every single one of them, THON would not be what it is today. Whether it is fundraising, being on a committee, or attending THON events throughout the year, every student is vital to the success of the Penn State Dance Marathon.
Thanks to Penn State students, more than $46 million has been raised for children with cancer in THON’s history. Fundraising is an exciting and crucial way to help out. It does not matter whether or not you are a part of another student group on campus, you can raise money for THON. Check out the Fundraising page for more information on the different types of fundraising and how you can get started. Every penny counts and goes towards finding a cure for pediatric cancer!
Early in the fall semester, Captains and Committee members are selected to fill many different roles within THON. To see a description of committee positions, click here. The committees are what makes THON happen all year long. Committees can be doing things such as physically setting up the Bryce Jordan Center, spreading the word about THON, counting all of the money that comes in, helping out the spirits of one of the many dancers, or in many other ways. Committees have a very wide range of job descriptions and there are so many different ways that they help.
If you are not on a committee, you can still be a part of THON. No one who is willing to volunteer their time to THON will be turned down. There is a volunteer list serve that you can sign up to be on right now. You will receive emails about various ways to help throughout the year. Participation is strictly voluntary and anything you do is greatly appreciated. Our volunteers get announcements about different THON events throughout the year that they can help out with, such as the THON 5K, Family Carnival, THON Nights Out, Blood Drives, and so much more. Every little bit that you do goes towards improving the lives of the children we support.
