THON Events
So you may be asking yourself “What is there to do THON weekend?” Well there are many acts, bands, performances, and our world famous DJ Larry Moore to keep you moving and grooving on the floor. In addition, there are several theme hours, color wars events, and activities to keep you moving and having fun. You’ll never be bored with all the excitement and activities THON has to provide.
Theme Hours
Theme hours are blocks of time when morale transforms the BJC for approximately one hour. There will be games, arts and crafts, and other fun activities based on the different themes. There will be 6 different theme hours come THON weekend, so get ready for 6 awesome hours of exciting events. Here are some of the theme hours to get excited for this year
Celebration Theme Hour
Celebration Theme Hour will help get you in the holiday spirit, and make you feel like partying. Get ready to relive all the special occasions throughout the whole year. Look for arts and crafts, music and dancing that reminds you of how happy the holidays can be.
The Price Is Right Theme Hour
Dancers come on down! Get ready to live the excitement of Price is Right theme hour and play some of the classic TV show’s games. Look for chances to play the better-known pricing games, and you may just get a chance to make it to the showcase showdown. You will be running down the aisles with happiness as you pass the time on one of the best game shows to hit TV.
ALL-U Theme Hour College Night Out/Tailgating
Every Penn Stater loves Football Saturdays, and this year's All-U hour will be bringing you just that. Look for great classic tailgating games and events that make you feel like you're up at Beaver Stadium getting ready for the game. Experience awesome State traditions from all 19 Commonwealth campuses and have fun THON weekend. After all Penn State is the best tailgating school in the nation for a reason!
Casino Night
Dancers are you feeling lucky? Well get ready to role the dice and take a chance with Casino Theme hour. Feel the rush of the bet with classic casino games straight from the Vegas strip to you. Take your chances, bet on love and let it ride!
Hollywood Hour
Get ready to feel like the superstar you are with Hollywood Hour. You’ll be making your red carpet debut, as you play games, make crafts, and soak in the California sunshine. You’ll have so much fun during the theme hour, you’ll swear that you are rubbing elbows with Brad and Angelina.
Family Game Night Hour
Everyone loves board games, and Family Game Night Theme Hour is here to bring them to life. All of your favorite classic games are made 3-D and given an added twist to help you pass the time. You’ll have an amazing time getting involved and competing with your fellow dancers for a chance to win.
WALK
The WALK transforms the drab hallways and stairways of the BJC into an illustrious adventure through different themes. The WALK gives the dancers and kids a chance to escape the excitement and noise of the floor and travel to far off and exciting places all while bouncing on mattresses. Get ready to experience a magical trip and have fun along the way. The WALK is a color wars event as well so try to rack up some points for your color while you’re walking on. There are quick games, decorations, and lots of activities that let you walk it out in style.
Mail Call
Mail Call is a chance for dancers to read letters and open packages from all those who support and love them. Mail comes from dancers’ moralers, friends, committee members, and families. Mail is just a small token of how much dancers are appreciated and loved and is a symbol of thanks for what you do for the kids. At the second part of dancer registration, please bring as many addressed and stamped envelopes with you that you would like sent out by us to family and friends. They should be addressed to people you want to receive letters and packages from during Mail Call. Just bring the envelopes with you, and the Mail Call Captains will take care of the work. Kids also get mail during Kids Mail Call, so don’t forget about making mail for them too, as we want to make sure they know how much we love them.
Line Dance
Hey Dancers, don’t just stand there - bust a move! The Line Dance is one of THON’s most famous events. The line dance is here to get you moving and stretched out during the weekend. The line dance is an expression of our year and reflects popular sports events, pop culture, news, Penn State events, popular songs, and most importantly the Four Diamonds Fund! The line dance is done periodically throughout THON, and by the end of the weekend, it’ll be your new favorite song.
Color Wars
Color Wars is a series of events and relays for dancers and kids alike to compete in. Dancers are divided into four colors: red, orange, green and blue. Starting at the Color Wars Kick Off, points are tallied throughout THON and the 2008 winner will be announced on stage after the conclusion of Color Wars Grand Finale! The winning team will have their color inscribed on the Color Wars trophy, thus leaving their mark on THON forever. Get ready for some good competition!
Card Swap –
I'll trade you all my Diamonds of Strength for your Diamond of Courage!. Try to barter and swap with other dancers and moralers in order to complete the set of trading cards based on the Four Diamonds Story. Gotta collect ‘em all!
Family Feud –
SHOW ME FOUR DIAMONDS! Survey says… it’s time to play the classic TV game that tries to get you to the guess the most popular answer from the surveyed question from 100 random people. If you choose one of the 4 most popular answers you’ll rack up points for your color.
Giant Bingo –
There was a dancer playing a game and Bingo was its Name-o. This event adds a new twist to the beloved game, as dancers are used as the chips in order to get spaces in a row and win the event for your color.
Hugs –
Dancers let's hug it out! Get ready to feel warm and fuzzy as you swap strings after you give a hug to that person. Only
hugs to kids count for points.
Human Checkers –
Hey Dancer, King me! This favorite game of red and black squares gets a new twist as dancers are used as the pieces. Dancers will compete as their colors and will get points based on their checker skills. Who knew squares could be so fun?
Spelling Bee –
Diamonds, D-I-A-M-O-N-D-S. Spell out words correctly the fastest in order to rank up points for your color. You will be wearing letters and will have to arrange yourself to spell the answer to a trivia question, so start brushing through your dictionaries now.
Madlibs –
During THON weekend I ______ on the _______ while my moraler _______. This classic game of fill in the blank will distributed randomly to dancers who will have to fill them if with words they think are the most appropriate and fun. The color that fills in the most blanks wins the event. I recommend going over your parts of speech now.
Name that Disney Song –
You think you’re a Disney buff? Well get ready to put your skills to the test as you compete against other colors in order to name that tune the fastest. Start watching your favorite movies soon, you’ll need to be able to tell your singing princesses apart.
So You Think You Can Dance? –
Pay close attention to your choreographer because after a short lesson it is your time to perform on stage. The color to get the most love from the crowd will be awarded the points. Be careful, you don’t want to get served.
Spaghetti and Marshmallow Towers –
How high can you build your tower? You don’t have to be an engineer in order to construct the “sweetest” tower in the BJC. Points will be given based on height and creativity, so you might want to draw up some blueprints.
Street Smarts –
Who is the President of America? G-Span-wrong. We asked different random people questions about trivia. Your job is to figure out who answered the question correctly. If you guess right, you’ll get a point for your color. Get ready to laugh and learn as you realize how hard simple questions can be to answer.
Stickermania – 
The kids are our heroes, and in this color wars event they will all be wearing their capes. Your job is to decorate those capes with stickers. The more stickers on your color cape the more points you rack up.
Thank You For Being A Friend –
Excuse me, do you have webbed feet? You’ll get to know other dancers as you ask them questions in order to complete your form. If you find someone who matches or has completed the category, collect their John Hancock. Teams that have the most completed forms win!
THON Wild-n-Out –
Prepare to spit on the mic in this rhyming rapping color wars event. This event is a 2-part act - first you will have to complete a rap given to you by a moraler. The best rapper from each color will then battle on stage against the others. The rapper with the best flow will be the winner.
Whack A Moraler –
Grab your mallets and get ready to wale on the moralers as they pop out of this life-size gigantic whack-a-mole game. The more moralers you hit the more points you get for your color.
Where’s Moraldo –
Is that him? No, that’s just Dan Cocco. In this favorite children’s game book come to life, you’ll be searching for specific moralers. If you find them you’ll rack up points for your color. Keep your eyes pealed, they could be anywhere.
Slides of Strength
Slides of Strength is an event where dancers get the opportunity torun and slide onto a giant foam mat and get a 20second body massage.
Throughout the event, OPP, along with other THON volunteers, sing Penn
State fight songs and cheers to get everyone on the floor pumped up
and involved! The mat is covered with baby powder to make it even more
enjoyable, leaving the dancers feeling refreshed and rejuvenated. It
is run by OPP captains, committee members, and sponsoring
organizations. There are several Slides of Strength throughout the
weekend and dancers are encouraged to participate in all of them!
Dancers, do you want to learn how to do a fun and new skill during THON weekend? Or maybe you’re looking for a chance to gain a new hobby to help pass the time. This year the Entertainment Committee will be putting on how-to acts next to the stage to help you learn how to do some things you always wanted to do.
