Hospitality Committee

Welcome to the Hospitality Committee…

The Hospitality committees are a vital part of THON. Throughout the year, you will participate in all THON events. Some of your pre-THON responsibilities are creating decorations for the Hospitality area of the Family Carnival and participating in all Bryce Jordan Center THON events. The BJC events allow Hospitality to work with Communications and donate our time to serve customers at the concession stands, increase awareness of THON, and raise money For The Kids!

During THON weekend, Hospitality committees have various responsibilities. The committees help with decorating and setting up the Hospitality area prior to the start of THON. Along with serving all meals to the dancers, the committees will serve all captain and family meals. Members are in charge of maintaining and preparing the Hospitality serving areas for every meal or snack served. Committees also run the Snack Shack to constantly provide food and beverages to the dancers at all times.

During weekly meetings, you can expect to brainstorm ideas for decorating the food areas and designing artwork. Hospitality committee members are very involved in all THON events, so there is always something to accomplish at each meeting. One of the main duties is to raise awareness and participate during 100 Days ‘til THON. Committee members play a very active role in promoting THON on this day.

Hospitality committee members are very friendly and outgoing in order to serve the dancers, volunteers, and families to the best of our ability. To be a committee member you must be available for events leading up to THON and for shifts during THON weekend. The time commitment is a meeting once a week that will last anywhere between 30 minutes to an hour, full participation in Hospitality Arts & Crafts Week the week before THON, and of courseTHON weekend. Join the Hospitality committee and you will see why HOS is BOSS!

Morale Committee

  • Do you have an overabundance of energy and want to put it to good use!?
  • Are you a motivated person who wants to help a great cause!?
  • Do you have an uncanny ability to make others smile!?
  • Are you obsessed with the color yellow!?

If you answered YES to these questions… THEN COME ON DOOOOOWN!!!!!!

For the entire year, the 20 captains and the 700 members of the Morale committee are responsible for the health, safety, and FUN of all 700 dancers THON weekend!

Every week, you'll have a meeting with your team where you'll help in the brainstorming of ideas for all sorts of floor events – like Color Wars Events, Random Events, the WALK, theme Hours, and much much more.

In addition to weekly team meetings, Moralers spread their energy at events throughout the year leading up to THON such as the THON 5K and 100 Days til THON, showcase their teams’ events at the All-Morale Pow Wow, create and design all the Arts and Crafts that make the BJC and dancers’ events look AWESOME, and motivate the dancers at Color Wars Kick Off!

Over the course of the year, you'll have an amazingly fun experience, but you will still have to put in an incredible amount of work and time. You have my personal guarantee that it is all worth it in the end! You and your fellow Moralers will grow very close as you continue to dedicate yourself to THON throughout the year and spend time with each other at every event!

Finally at THON, you will see all your hard work in action! It is now your job, as a Moraler, to be on the floor helping the dancers during their two-day maraTHON! On the floor you'll be doing everything from encouraging tired dancers and rubbing feet to manning the dancer storage hallways and running the events you planned earlier in the year. Everywhere a dancer sees a little burst of energy in a yellow shirt, they know they have an amazing support network to help them get through their two-day THON!! Remember that everything we do is for the dancers so they can be there FOR THE KIDS!!

**Due to the overwhelming number of applications for Morale, it is strongly encouraged not to apply if you know that you will be dancing in THON.

OPPerations

"THON works because We Do."

OPPerations is the backbone of THON. We are a dedicated bunch who has loads of fun amongst the work at hand! We often work behind the scenes but the proud OPP Blue Shirts know what just happens to make all of THON tick. Our tasks as OPPerations in the months prior to THON are done to prepare for this and then to keep the event running smoothly and safely for the whole weekend.

OPP's most important feat is the "Big Move," which is the transformation of the BJC into THON. This conversion would never happen without our amazing committee members. That weekend the Bryce Jordan Center becomes a secret place; a world where children can forget that they are loosing their hair and that their bones are weak, and that they are tired - they can now let go of their mom's hand and chase the dancers around, hiding their pains behind a huge smiling grin.

While you are on-shift you can wander the floor with your friends, jam out to the bands or playing catch with dancers, and all we ask is to keep an eye on the cleanliness and be alert for your captains who need help. Don't forget to participate in the ever so popular dancer favorite 'Slides of Strength', run by OPP to give the dancers a big boost and little massage

As the money totals are revealed, the music stops and crowds dwindle, dancers collapse to sleep and families head home, OPPerations starts its last mission - THON Tear-Down. We work into the night to return the BJC to its old self, and pack away THON for another 362 days. By this time of the weekend, we've fully realized why we put in the time and effort-always and forever....FOR THE KIDS!

Public Relations Committee

Help THON by spreading the word!

The Public Relations Committee members, or Street Teams, as they are affectionately referred to, are an important committee within THON. Their main objective is to help to create awareness about THON to those outside of the Penn State Community. These Street Teams will primarily be passing out fliers and other small giveaway items with information about THON in State College as well as across the state. The committee is looking for outgoing and friendly people whose goal is to spread the THON spirit to as many people as possible and not only inform people about the events, but the meaning behind Penn State's greatest tradition; FOR THE KIDS!!!

Videography Committee

Photography Committee

These committee members under the Photography Captains will be responsible for capturing still images at all THON events during both the fall and spring semesters, as well as shifts during THON weekend. Special Events Committee

Want to be apart of something special?

There will be two Special Events Decorations Committees for THON 2008. Special Event Committee Members will play an important role in decorating all Special Events including the THON 5K, Family Carnival and Road to THON Celebration. One committee will also be working all year on the THON Museum and one committee will be planning the Donor Appreciation Reception held on THON Weekend. Both committees will have important roles during THON weekend ". . . from the bleachers to the floor". If it is your first THON or a veteran, being a part of a Special Events committee will ensure a special THON memory.

Rules and Regulations

Regulate!

Rules and Regulations committee members are an essential part of THON, ensuring the safety of THON families, dancers, and spectators. However, rules & regs is so much more! As a Redshirt, you will be actively involved in designing and implementing a plan to "Regulate" THON 2008, laying the groundwork for future BJC THON’s while having a blast with your fellow captains. You'll also work on other aspects of THON completely unrelated to security, including the Family Carnival. Rules and Regs is a great way to volunteer your time and energy For The Kids! If you have any questions about being a Redshirt, e-mail Dustin Kinney, the Rules and Regulations Chairperson, at rules.regulations@thon.org.
