It is the role of the Special Events Overall Committee to excite students, alumni, sponsors and Four Diamond Families for the upcoming Dance Marathon. The Special Events Committee is responsible for the planning, staffing and execution of the THON 5K, Family Reunion Carnival, Road to THON Celebration, THON Museum, THON Celebration, Wigs for Kids, and many other events. It is our main goal to increase awareness and excitement for THON year round. Administrative Assistant (1)
This captain works closely with the Special Events Overall to organize and plan various committee tasks. The responsibilities of this captain include writing notes during meetings, sending out minutes to the committee, sharing inspirational quotes and stories, and planning social activities. A person who is dependable and organized is perfect for this position.
THON 5K Captains (2)
The THON 5K, held on November 4th, 2007, is the first of many exciting events during the THON season. The THON 5K captains are in charge of planning for the event and leading others on the day of the marathon. Leadership skills with an attention to detail are necessary for this position.
Family Carnival Captains (2)
The Family Reunion Carnival, held on December 9th, 2007, is an event where student volunteers and the Four Diamonds families get together for an exciting day of food, fun, and entertainment. The Family Carnival captains are responsible for planning of the event, the development of the theme, and management of the carnival booths. Creativity and leadership experience are perfect for this position.
Road to THON Celebration Captains (2)
The Road to THON Celebration will be held on January 31, 2007 as an exciting event leading up to THON Weekend. The Road to THON Celebration captains will work closely with the Special Events Overall in deciding meals, decorations, ticket sales, and items for the silent auction. They will also assist in the creation and distribution of the invitations and answering any questions the student body has about the dinner. This captain must be available all day long on the date of the dinner. Creativity and attention to detail are essential to this position.
Wigs for Kids Captains (2)
These captains will be in charge of the Wigs for Kids donations during the THON season and will also organize the event during THON weekend. A previous Wigs for Kids or Locks of Love donor would be preferred for this position.
Developmental Captains (2)
These captains will be responsible for the expansion of Special Events activities and THON as a year round philanthropy. They will be developing new THON events throughout the year. These captains are also responsible for setting up Captain Picture Night in the fall. Previous experience with THON and event planning is beneficial. Someone who is creative and can think outside of the box is perfect for this position.
Decoration & THON Museum Captains (2)
These captains will be responsible for decorating all of the Special Events activities to promote themes. They will also be in charge of the THON Museum that will be present at THON events. Artistic ability, organization, and leadership experience are necessary, as these captains will also be responsible for a decoration committee.
Decoration & THON Celebration Captains (2)
These captains will be responsible for decorating all of the Special Events activities to promote themes. They will also be responsible for planning and running the THON Celebration during THON Weekend. Artistic ability, organization and leadership skills are highly necessary, as these captains will also be responsible for a decoration committee.
Decoration & Special Projects Captain (1)
These captains will be responsible for decorating all of the Special Events activities to promote themes. They will also be responsible for working THON LateNight – 4D Movie and other events. Artistic ability, organization and leadership skills are highly necessary, as these captains will also be responsible for a decoration committee.
Design Captains (2)
These captains will be responsible for designing the THON 5K logo and all t-shirts and flyers needed for the Special Events committee. In addition, they will work with a graphics design class to produce the THON Magazine. Previous experience with graphic design, artistic ability, and creativity are necessary.
Floor Plan / Logistics Captain (1)
This captain is responsible for the logistical planning and set up of the 5K, Family Carnival, and Donor Appreciation Reception. A veteran THON captain who has experienced these events and is familiar with floor planning software is ideal for this position.
Family Relations / Entertainment Captains (2)
These captains will be responsible for producing the logo slide show for the THON Family Carnival, the slide show for the Road to THON Celebration, and organizing and distributing the Four Diamonds awards. In addition, they will work with Family Relations and Entertainment captains to assist families attending the carnival. Applicants who have experience with Final Cut and PowerPoint are encouraged to apply.
Public Relations / Communications / Supply Logistics Liaison Captain (1)
These captains will be the primary liaisons between the Special Events committee and the Public Relations / Communications committees. They will help with promoting the THON 5K, Family Reunion Carnival, Road to THON Celebration, and all of our other events. Someone who is creative and outgoing is perfect for this position.
