The OPPerations Committee is one of the most essential committees to a smooth-running, problem free THON weekend. We work closely with all of the other committees to make their ideas a reality. Whether we are building, cleaning, organizing, or problem-solving, it is our responsibility to make THON run as safely and efficiently as possible. This group of Captains, along with their respective committees, creates an amazing team that accomplishes tough tasks, but also has a lot of fun as friends along the way.
OPPerations members serve as the hands and feet of THON. Most of their time is spent behind the scenes, largely going unnoticed. However, without their tireless dedication THON would not be possible! Captains work throughout the year to prepare necessary pieces of physical plant, and completely transform the Bryce Jordan Center into the home of the largest student-run philanthropy in the world. In addition, we are also highly involved in the logistical planning, set-up, and tear-down of the THON 5K and the THON Family Carnival. The OPP committee experience is unique in that each member has the opportunity to not only see what THON is all about, but to have a hands-on involvement in the process. As an OPP captain you will need to be a leader, since you will motivate and inspire your own committee consisting of 25-30 members.
OPP improves each year with new ideas and expansions on the past, all to make THON and all of its components work effectively. A strong work ethic is essential to our success because OPP does consist of manual labor and hard work. Past OPP experience is certainly a plus, but by no means required (and girls – don’t be intimidated). As long as you have a willingness to learn and can make logical decisions, you will be a great asset.
For THON 2007, the OPPerations Committee will consist of 20 Captains who will work together to help create the most successful THON yet. Each captain, minus the Set-Up/Tear-Down Liaison and Logistic Captains, will lead a group of 25-30 committee members. If you are at all interested in joining our team, apply to be an OPP Captain.
