THON Captains are hardworking and motivated leaders in the THON community. As a captain, you can expect to take an active role in the planning of THON events throughout the year, grow as a leader, and build long-lasting relationships with other student volunteers. Typically, past experience within THON is recommended. We encourage you to apply for the positions that most interest you! Best of luck!

Communications

Our Mission

The mission of the Communications Committee is to serve as the main liaison to all THON volunteers within the Penn State community. By building strong relationships, we work to educate and empower the students, faculty, staff, and alumni of our University as to how they can make a greater impact in the fight to cure pediatric cancer. The hundreds of student organizations that support THON rely on Communications to give them the right information and tools they need to accomplish their goals for the year.

What We Do

The Communications Captains spread THON’s message to all Penn State students, organizations, faculty, staff, and alumni by providing them with the tools and information they need to provide financial and emotional support to the children, families, researchers, and staff of The Four Diamonds Fund.

This person will assist the Overall and the rest of the Captains by keeping everyone informed and organized. This Captain will be in charge of taking minutes at meetings, sending weekly reminders to the committee, and ordering all the COMM gear for the year. This position will also be in charge of the maintaining the new THON Office by keeping it clean, organized, and friendly for all visitors!

This position works with the Dance Marathon Alumni Interest Group (DMAIG) and the Penn State Alumni Association to build a strong base of support for years to come. They will help with Alumni fundraising and regional events as well as plan Alumni events to be held THON weekend. New for THON 2010, Alumni Relations will also have a committee that works to spread awareness of THON to alumni.

This Captain will play an integral role in communicating THON's message to the student body of Penn State. They will be in charge of a committee that will work together to come up with new events to spread the passion and spirit of THON to the Penn State Community. This will be done by sending letters, staffing information stations, and having face-to-face meetings with individuals who would like to learn more about THON.

These captains are the main liaison between THON and the Commonwealth Campuses. They will build and maintain strong ties with all campuses of Penn State throughout the year to ensure all students have the chance to get involved. With the help of their committee, they plan events to keep all Penn State students connected to THON.

This captain will be in charge of planning various events throughout the year with a goal to get more THON volunteers involved. Activities to help coordinate include the East Halls Dinner (for all freshman who want to learn more about committees), the THON Chair Workshop, the THON involvement fair (for students who want to get involved), KGSO (Kelly Green Shirt Orientation, a fun orientation for Communications Committee members), Comm-A-Palooza (the THON Weekend training for all Communications Committee members), and various other fundraising events throughout the year.

This Captain's role is to be the main liaison between THON and the Inter-Fraternity Council (IFC). They will also act as a liaison to the Greek organizations on campus to help them meet their goals for the upcoming year. Fundraising and past THON Chair experience are a huge plus for this position. Having the ability to work well with people and being an effective communicator are essential.

These captains will work to teach and empower the independent THON organizations to help them accomplish their goals for the upcoming year. Through working with the Organization Liaison team, they will come up with the most effective means of communication to all THON organizations possible. Fundraising and THON Chair experience is a huge plus for this position. Having the ability to work well with people and being an effective communicator are essential.

This captain will work closely with the Organization Liaison team to assist all the student organizations of THON in meeting their goals for the upcoming year. These Captains' main focus will be the independent dancers of THON, but they will also work on fundraising seminars for all THON chairs. Fundraising and THON Chair experience is a huge plus for this position. Having the ability to work well with people and being an effective communicator are essential.

These captains will teach organizations that are new to THON the information and fundraising strategies they need to be successful. They will also work with the liaison team to help all THON organizations to fulfill their goals for the year through different fundraising seminars/events. Fundraising and THON Chair experience are a huge plus for this position. Having the ability to work well with people and being an effective communicator are essential.

This captain will be the point person for all the Organization Liaisons. This position will coordinate the contacting of the organizations, help answer questions, and help plan the THON Chair Workshops. Also, this Captain will help with the mentorship program by pairing new organizations with established organizations so they can learn from each other, as well as work with the Old Main and the Administration at Penn State to get them more involved with THON. The ability to accomplish many goals at once is a must for this position.

This captain will work with the Mini-THON program at Hershey Medical Center. This position will assist different Mini-THON's by providing the with and information they may require while planning their event. This Captain will also serve as the main liaison to other Universities and Dance Marathon's around the country that want to learn what makes THON so successful.

This captain works with the student athletes to help them fundraise and become involved in different THON activities. They act as THON chairs to athletes through SAAB by helping them find alternative ways to fundraise and participate in THON.

This position is almost entirely focused on preparing for THON Weekend. They will plan all the Communication committee's activities, such as Info Booths in the Bryce Jordan Center, the THON Weekend Lost-and-Found, sleep shifts for all THON Captains, and other Communications committee events THON Weekend. Excellent organization skills and the ability to accomplish many goals at once is a must for this position.

With the help of their committee, this captain will be in charge of planing and coordinating several events throughout the year. One such event is the Independant Dancer Diamond Pursuit, a competition for independant dancer couples in January. This captain will also coordinate making the Captain, Committee member, and family identification buttons as well as promoting THON Blood Drives.

This Captain's role is to be the main liaison between THON and the Panhellenic Council. They will also act as a liaison to the Greek organizations on campus to help them meet their goals for the upcoming year. Fundraising and THON Chair experience are a huge plus for this position. Having the ability to work well with people and being an effective communicator are essential.

This Captain will be responsible for communicating the mission of THON to the Penn State faculty and staff. This will be done through face-to-face meetings with professors, advisers, and other staff and events throughout the year to teach faculty and staff how they can become involved. They will also be in charge of a committee who will help with the faculty and staff initiatives.

Donor Relations

Our Mission

The mission of the Donor Relations Committee is to empower, motivate, and educate the THON community to increase awareness of pediatric cancer and to fundraise effectively. It is our goal to help THON continue its monetary and emotional contribution to the Four Diamonds Fund by maintaining and building relationships with THON’s individual, small business, corporate, and foundation donors.

What We Do

The Donor Relations Captain Committee strives to spread awareness of THON by making each experience unique for every donor. They will have an opportunity to share their passion for THON through professional contacts at small businesses, corporations, and foundations. Each Captain will act as a fundraising liaison to a group of organizations. As a fundraising resource, the DR Captains will be able to assist THON Chairs as they organize and implement a donor solicitation strategy in addition to contacting businesses themselves. Some DR Captains will also be given Committee members to help with their specific tasks. DR is truly an unforgettable experience!

This person needs to be highly motivated and organized. This Captain will serve as project manager for DR and work with the Overall to ensure functionality within the committee. The Administrative Assistant will be responsible for meeting minutes, compiling DR's THON Weekend timeline, sending out committee reminders and updates, as well as coordinating committee events.

This Captain needs to be energetic, creative, and outgoing. This position will be in charge of providing weekly inspirational and motivational stories and lead team building activities at Committee events. They are responsible for creating a greater connection between the DR Committee and THON Families. In addition, they will plan a tour of Penn State Hershey Children's Hospital for donors.

These Captains will be responsible for creating a solicitation strategy for all current and potential donors in Centre County. They have the opportunity to be innovated and promote THON throughout the local area. They will organize a Local Donor Tour THON Weekend as well as attend/host business related events in State College.

This position will work with THON Donors and University Contacts in organizing and planning recruiting events for THON volunteers. They will make presentations to donors about how donating to THON is more than just writing a check. They will also, have the unique opportunity of maintaining and expanding the support THON receives from foundations. In addition they will also work with the Donor Events Captains to plan the University Appreciation Reception THON Weekend.

This Captain is responsible for marketing THON's small business and corporate donors during THON Weekend. They will work with the BJC staff to promote the companies using the marketing capabilities the BJC has to offer. In addition, they will be collecting banners from companies to display THON Weekend. In doing all this, they will have a great opportunity to collaborate with other Committees.

These Captains plan various events throughout the year that cater to THON's donors. These Captains will be responsible for planning the Donor Appreciation Reception as well as assisting with the University Appreciation Reception during THON Weekend. They will also be in charge of coordinating the decorating of the donor suites in the BJC. In addition, they will have the opportunity to develop new benefit or stewardship events for the donors.

These Captains must be organized and enjoy using spreadsheets. They will be responsible for updating and maintaining all of the donation information in THINK as well as cleaning up any obsolete donor information in the database. These Captains will be working closely with the Finance Committee.

**These Captains are eligible to dance THON Weekend if given the opportunity.

These Captains need to be great at project management and coordination skills. They will be responsible for THON's Individual Donors and all aspects of the THONvelope (letter writing) campaign. They have the responsibility of coordinating the sorting, distribution, and collecting all of the THONvelopes. Additionally, they will develop ways to effectively promote the campaign and communicate its message to the THON community. These Captains will be working with Committee members to complete their tasks.

These Captains are critical in the final stage of the donor experience. They are responsible in coordinating the efforts to thank and benefit all small business and corporate donors. In addition, they will also be responsible for thanking THON's individual donors. These Captains will have Committee members to help them complete their tasks. They will also have the opportunity to develop new benefiting and stewardship ideas.

This Captain will be working with a Technology Liaison on all the DR projects involving the THINK Database and THON.org. They will also work with the other Captains to spearhead brainstorming sessions to develop new ideas for the donor sections on THON.org and THINK. THON Weekend responsibilities include working with Technology and the Benefiting Captains to coordinate Floor Passes for the Donors.

This innovating and energetic Captain has the great opportunity of leading the DR Committee in all special projects. They will also have the responsibility of working with Rules & Regulations to review Alternative Fundraisers. Also, they will plan and schedule all of the DR-lead tours THON Weekend.

This Captain will have the main responsibly of keeping THON donors coming back for more. They will develop new ideas for making sure donors have a great donor experience and donate year after year. They will build relationships with donors to see why they donate to THON.

This position will require good communication skills in order to effectively communicate THON's fundraising strategy to the Commonwealth Campus THON Chairs. They will use this to develop fundraising plans and contact potential donors. Also, this Captain may be required to attend some break-out sessions for Commonwealth Campus THON Chairs.

This position requires analytical and critical thinking skills. This Captain will analyze every aspect of a THON donor. They will research THON's past donors and their donation trends. Using that information they will work with other Donor Relations Captains to help them effectively target a new donor.

Entertainment

Our Mission

The mission of the Entertainment Committee is to provide and ensure the highest level of excitement, quality, and safety in all music, productions, and live events during THON Weekend and at every THON event and production throughout the year.

What We Do

Entertainment Captains have the unique opportunity to spread THON spirit throughout Penn State and its surrounding communities. The Entertainment Captains work hard to ensure the highest quality entertainment is brought to the stage and screen at every THON event throughout the year. THON Skate and THON Band Bash are two of several events Entertainment holds during the year to raise money For The Kids and spread the spirit of THON. During THON Weekend, responsibilities include but are not limited to stage set-up, the Pre-THON show, stage and camera shifts, Entertainment events, bands, Athlete Hour, Pep Rally, and post-THON stage teardown.

This Captain will work closely with the Overall to keep every Entertainment Captain informed and organized. Responsibilities include taking meeting notes, maintaining the ANGEL group, sending out reminders, coordinating set-up and teardown of events, and organizing fundraising efforts. This position also will work closely with the Local Entertainment Captains to organize Entertainment’s aspects of the THON Family Carnival and THON 5K. Strong organization skills and attention to detail are necessary for this position.

This position has the responsibility of handling all media and footage associated with THON 2010 as well as creating digital backups. This Captain is in charge of archiving all THON memorabilia from all THON events throughout the year to ensure that the history and legacy of THON is preserved for generations to come. They also will have the opportunity to research THON as they organize and maintain the THON documents and media both from the campus and from the local media. They will also work with the Public Relations Committee to create graphics, flyers, and posters to promote Entertainment specific events. This Captain will also serve as the main contact to the Technology Committee. Knowledge of servers, Final Cut, and data backup are preferred.

These Captains are responsible for recruiting and managing the contracts of bands that will perform throughout the THON season and during THON Weekend. They also will be in charge of booking and running the annual THON Band Bash. Good communication skills, organization, and knowledge of the local and regional music scene are preferred.

These Captains act as the main line of communication between Entertainment and the Family Relations Committee. Their main projects will include coordinating the Penn State Family Fashion Show and the "Where are They Now?" video featured THON Weekend along with various other family-related projects. These Captains should be creative and organized and have good communication skills.

These Captains are responsible for recruiting and organizing events on the floor during THON Weekend as well as thinking of new and innovative ways to involve the thousands of crowd members who attend THON. This position is responsible for making sure the entire Committee gets the best interaction with the dancers and audience as possible. Creativity, big ideas, and practicality are a must.

This Captain is responsible for maintaining the bond and energy in the Entertainment Committee. They will plan and coordinate all retreats, design and order all gear, and develop bonding activities throughout the year. They also will be responsible for making sure everyone on the Entertainment Committee is appreciated and has the best experience possible. Creativity and event planning skills are a must.

These two Captains work closely together to recruit and organize local entertainment acts involved in THON Weekend and all events leading up to THON Weekend. They will be responsible for finding a variety of performance acts that provide high energy and excitement. Communication and organization skills are a must. Knowledge of local entertainment is preferred.

This position has the prestigious task of creating and maintaining the timeline for THON Weekend. The Timeline Captain, along with the Overall, will help coordinate and manage every act, performance, and event that will take place THON Weekend. This Captain will work closely with Entertainment, along with every other Committee, group, and organization to ensure the Timeline will run smoothly THON Weekend. In addition to being extremely well organized, this person must have a working knowledge of Excel and be familiar with all THON Weekend events.

These Captains are in charge of the first event to take place THON Weekend, the Pre-THON Show, which will set the tone for the rest of the 46 hours. These Captains will be responsible for creating all of the details for the Pre-THON Show including the Pre-THON Video as well as organizing acts to perform in the show. These Captains must be creative, innovative, and organized.

The Production Captains are responsible for consulting and producing all videos created and shown both during THON Weekend and throughout the year. This list includes but is not limited to the THON Promotional Video, Line Dance Video, and the Where Are They Now? video. These Captains will also work with other Committees to ensure the highest quality of entertainment in all videos produced. Creativity, passion, and dedication are a must. Captains in this position should be very experienced in Final Cut and have a working knowledge of all aspects of production.

These Captains are responsible for coordinating a variety of events and projects throughout the THON season including the THON Auction, THON Skate, THON Trivia, THON Night Outs and more. They are in charge of set up, publicity, organization and coordination of these pre-THON events. They also have the unique and exciting experience of organizing THON's spirit points. Organization and creativity are a must.

This position serves as the main contact between the THON Committees Entertainment works closest with THON Weekend: Rules & Regulations, Morale and OPP (Red Yellow Blue). This Captain is responsible for coordinating Entertainment's efforts with RYB, setting up meetings and making sure THON Weekend runs as smoothly as possible. Examples of responsibilities include but are not limited to: stage builds, lighting cues, and passes for every act THON Weekend. Very strong communication skills and experience on R&R, OPP, or Morale are preferred.

These two Captains have the duty of planning one of THON Weekend's biggest events: the Pep Rally. They will work together to bring new ideas to THON's Pep Rally and manage student athlete performances with the help of the SAAB Liaison. Strong organization, creativity, and dedication are a must.

This Captain serves as the liaison between SAAB, THON, and the student athletes who perform at the Pep Rally and participate in Athlete Hour. This Captain also has the duty of planning Athlete Hour and working closely with the Pep Rally Captains to coordinate student athlete performances. Very strong communication skills, organization, and creativity are a must.

Family Relations

Our Mission

The mission of the Family Relations Committee is to provide year round assistance and support to The Four Diamonds Families by ensuring that they enjoy all of their THON experiences to the fullest. Family Relations is committed to the well being of the Four Diamonds Families, keeping students informed and inspired, and working alongside the rest of THON’s Committees to ensure that the families remain at the heart of THON and everything is done For The Kids.

What We Do

The Family Relations Committee upholds the emotional aspect of THON’s mission statement. Family Relations works to support the families and share their inspiration with the entire THON community. Additionally, Family Relations plans family events throughout the THON season, and weekend events such as the Family Variety Show and Four Diamonds Fashion Show.

This Captain is responsible for keeping the committee informed and organized, taking minutes and sending the minutes out to the committee in a timely manner. This position will work closely with the Overall to help organize Family Relations. This Captain will also help organize and distribute information important to the committee and other individual Captain positions on FR. This position will be responsible for maintaining and organizing the family check in at the Bryce Jordan Center THON Weekend. This Captain will also be in charge of making a mini-schedule for each family and FR Captain for THON Weekend, incorporating family specific engagements. In addition, this Captain will spread awareness about childhood cancer through weekly childhood cancer facts and a childhood cancer PowerPoint.

This Captain is responsible for providing decorations for all Family Relations events and activities throughout the year. These range from decorating for Harvest Day to the decorations for the Family Lounge in the BJC THON Weekend. This Captain is also responsible for creating any posters or other signage or oversized banners as needed for the Committee. For each event that FR attends, this Captain will make nametags for the FR Captains and members of the Overall Committee. They will also make cards throughout the year for the Four Diamonds children's birthdays and have them signed by the rest of the committee. This Captain will work with Supply Logistics, as a liaison, to request and obtain all the materials FR will work with throughout the THON season.

The Family Events Coordinators are responsible for recruiting Penn State students to participate in the Penn Pal program, as well as organizing the Penn Pal program after students have signed up. They will be in charge of the Variety Show, the Fashion Show, Project SIBS, Teen Night, and Captains in Training, all of which take place THON Weekend. They will be responsible for recruiting families to participate in all four of these events as well as coordinating all necessary details for the activities, including working with the Entertainment Committee for timeline and stage time purposes. They will also plan events for teens throughout the THON season.

These Captains will be responsible for the organization of any and all family projects devised by the FR Committee. Projects include but are not limited to THON Family Online Scrapbook, Feature Family Project, Feature Family Posters for THON Weekend, THON Weekend Family Shoutouts, and angel pin distribution during THON Weekend. These Captains will be responsible for presenting these family projects to various THON Committees outside of FR. The primary goal of this position is to provide the Committees of THON various ways to learn about the Four Diamonds Families.

This Captain is responsible for compiling and organizing family registration forms for the Adopt A Family (AAF) program and will participate in pairing families with Penn State organizations. This Captain will maintain the crucial family database and serve as the primary contact for the Four Diamonds Families. They will be responsible for addressing any questions and concerns that the families may have. This Captain will also be responsible for guiding fellow FR Captains through the relationships they build with families by helping with phone calls, e-mails, and other important contacts. It is this Captain's responsibility to send out the Four Diamonds Family listserv as well as a Family of the Week story throughout the year. He or she will also organize and run the Parent Info Session THON Weekend.

This Captain is responsible for the advertisement, organization and enforcement of all aspects and guidelines pertaining to the student trips to the Penn State Children's Hospital. This Captain will receive the Hershey Trip applications and arrange the tour trips so that every tour date is filled and the maximum number of students can enjoy these trips. This position will also serve as the primary contact to organizations and The Four Diamonds Fund for scheduling trips, providing all needed information to the organization as well other questions or concerns relating to the trips. This position will coordinate and organize Captain volunteering at the outpatient clinic for Special Visitors Days. This Captain will also be responsible for the Gold Ribbon Campaign and will work with PR for the 100 Days Celebration. Lastly, this Captain will work with Entertainment to organize the Why We THON Theme Hour THON Weekend.

This Captain is responsible for putting together a welcome package to be given to the families upon arrival THON Weekend. The packet includes directions and maps to their hotels and a map of downtown State College, incorporating area highlights. This position will work with the Family Relations Decorator to create welcome banners for the hotels where the Families stay THON Weekend. This Captain will also be the liaison between Family Relations and Hospitality and will be responsible for pairing the families with complimentary, reduced-rate, or full price hotel accommodations for THON Weekend as well as keep an accurate record of all families' arrangements and answering any lodging questions the families may have. This Captain will also work with Hospitality to plan the meals provided for the families THON Weekend, and to coordinate the dancer meal served by Four Diamond families.

This Captain will be paired with a liaison from the Morale Committee to coordinate family involvement in morale activities throughout THON Weekend. These activities include but are not limited to random theme hours, family participation in Color Wars, and Kids Mail Call. This Captain will also assist the motivational leader in keeping morale high among the Family Relations Committee. He or she will work to improve relations with other Committees by providing thanks and highlighting each Committee through Committee of the week. This Captain will work across every THON Committee to produce a Why We THON Scrapbook to be used at Hershey Medical Center.

This Captain will be responsible for keeping spirits and motivation high among Family Relations Captains. He or she will start each meeting with an icebreaker, as well as special quotes, stories and other inspiration. This Captain is also responsible for sharing inspiration with the rest of the THON community. He or she may attend other committees' meetings to motivate other Captains. This position is responsible for FR Committee celebrations, organizing both the fall and spring committee retreats, ordering FR apparel throughout the THON season, and working with the family leader to organize the Family of the Week. This Captain will also work with Entertainment to the main coordinate the Celebration of Life video played during Family Hour THON Weekend.

This Captain is responsible for the coordinating and organizing the New Family Orientation held in January at the Penn State Children's Hospital in Hershey. Duties include designing a New to THON family survival packet and leading the orientation with the families. This Captain will be the primary contact for all the new THON families, and will be expected to call or email each family on a regular basis. This Captain will expand and improve the Families Helping Families program that pairs new families with veteran families in order to help the new families adjust to THON

They will also participate in pairing the Four Diamonds Families with the Penn State Organizations. These Captains will be the primary contact for organizations partaking in AAF and they will track the efforts and activities of organizations and see that proper repercussions are carried out when organizations do not fulfill the responsibilities of participating in AAF. These Captains will also be responsible for keeping organizations inspired throughout the THON season.

This Captain will be responsible for the coordination and organization of Harvest Day, THON Hoops, and the Post-THON Celebration. He or she will be in charge of securing a date for THON Hoops and working with the BJC to plan the event. This Captain will also be responsible for securing the location of the Post-THON Celebration as well as planning an itinerary for the events, working with the FR decorator for decorations and handling all RSVP's to the events. Additionally, this position will assist the Special Events Committee in the planning of the THON 5K, Family Carnival and Road to THON Celebration. THON Weekend, this Captain is responsible for aiding in the planning and logistics of all Special Events events.

This Captain will be in charge of organizing the Penn State Wish program for the Four Diamonds patients during THON Weekend. This position will also organize the No Grown Ups allowed room during THON Weekend. This Captain will work throughout the year securing contacts and donations for both of these events. This position will also organize and expand a THON Weekend activity book to be place in the family bags.

This Captain is responsible for creating the 'Road To THON' video, in conjunction with the Entertainment Committee, which is played during Family Hour THON Weekend. In addition, this position will work with the Technology Committee to maintain the Four Diamonds Families' page on the THON website, which will include videos, pictures and updates for the families. This Captain will also help to implement new and creative ideas for the Four Diamonds Families' portion of the website, including a No Grown Ups Allowed section, family webpages and childhood cancer facts. This Captain will also be in direct contact with Rules & Regulations, especially in regards to the Rulebook and Pass System.

This Captain will organize the five Adopt A Family (AAF) Workshops held throughout the THON season. The purpose of the workshops is to help organizations build a strong relationship with their Four Diamonds Family. This Captain is Family Relation's link to the Commonwealth Campuses, and will make sure that they are properly informed at all times. This Captain is in charge of maintaining the AAF Organization ANGEL group, providing information, inspiration, and ideas to all organizations participating in the AAF program. This Captain will also participate in the pairing of organizations with Four Diamonds Families.

Finance

Our Mission

The mission of the Finance Committee is to attain accurate totals of all monetary donations collected by organizations and independents on behalf of THON. It is the responsibility of the Finance Committee to support the students of Penn State in both their fundraising efforts and the tracking of their monetary totals. Finance is also responsible for finalizing the THON Weekend total: a sum of the University’s year-long effort to raise money in support of the families, doctors, and researchers of the Four Diamonds and the fight against pediatric cancer.

What We Do

The Finance Captains are responsible for tracking THON’s total throughout the fundraising season. Captains work to count all monetary donations, manage checks and pledges, as well as assist THON Chairs and donors with all financial needs. Finance is the coordinator of Canning Drop Offs following the four fundraising weekends. Finance Captains also work in the THON Office weekly to aid in the tracking of daily donations.

This Captain will be responsible for all administrative duties that occur within the Finance Captain Committee. These duties include taking meeting minutes, posting important documents on our ANGEL group, ordering and collecting money for all outfitting needs, and tracking the office hours schedule. This person will also help in making the "THON Weekend survival guide" for the committee.

This Captain is the main liaison between Finance and the Commonwealth Campuses. They will assist the Overall in communicating our message and deadlines throughout the Commonwealth by sending out all necessary reminders to the Commonwealth THON Chairs. They will also attend Council Weekends held for the Commonwealth THON Chairs to assist the chairs with any outstanding issues or donation collection. This position will be responsible for handling all checks and Canning Weekend money that is received from each campus.

This Captain will be in charge of planning all aspects of CDO, which occurs on the four Mondays after each Canning Weekend. The duties of this Captain include contacting ASA, drafting general THON chair reminders, committee sign-ups, and day of set-up. This Captain will also assist the Special Event Coordinators with GSO and Finance games as needed.

These Captains will work to be the main line of communication between Donor Relations and Finance. They will be responsible for tracking all corporate checks and seeing that they are properly entered into the database system. These two Captains will also be responsible for the Finance responsibilities of the THONvelope campaign.

These Captains are responsible for leading the Finance Committee members. These Captains are in charge of teaching Committee members about THON and keeping them involved through bi-weekly meetings. With the help of their committees, these Captains will be in charge of gift and pledge entry both in meetings and during scheduled office hours. These Captains will help promote and inform their committees about all THON events throughout the year.

The main responsibility of this Captain will be to track and record all checks improperly marked. This person will work with the treasurers to keep them updated on all problem checks. This position will also contact organizations with any information regarding checks that were deemed to be a problem. This Captain will work in the office on checks and deposits throughout the THON fiscal year.

These two Captains will be the event planners and coordinators of Finance. They will organize Green Shirt Orientation (GSO), as well as plan the Finance games (a competition between each of the five Finance Committees). These Captains will assist the Overall with preparation for Dancer Registration and ensure all organizations have met the minimum monetary requirement prior to registration. Finally, these Captains will assist in planning additional activities throughout the year including retreats, 100 days celebration, and the Family Carnival booth.

These Captains will be responsible for general upkeep and organization of the Finance desk in the THON Office. They will be in charge of batching checks and working with the corporate matching program. Office Captains will also focus on alternative fundraisers, special giving, the friends of THON mailing, and THONvelope collection. These Captains will have additional office hours to help finish all daily deposits.

These Captains will be the "right-hand-men" to the Overall. The two Captains will share split duties traditionally preformed by the assistant treasurer. These duties include book-keeping for organization fundraising, maintaining the donor data base, and general THINK upkeep. This position is vital to the success of THON finance, as they will assist in tracking the numbers of THON all year long.

Hospitality

Our Mission

The Hospitality Committee strives to fuel THON through service and support for the families, dancers, and volunteers. We act as a face of THON to the community and sponsors by procuring donations for THON events throughout the year. Hospitality works to represent THON at all times with enthusiasm, passion, and commitment For The Kids!

What We Do

The main responsibility of the THON Hospitality Committee is to acquire and serve all food and beverages during THON Weekend and at pre-THON events. Thus, many Captains will work to procure these donations and all Captains will serve them at various THON events. Each Hospitality Captain will be assigned a co-Captain and select a committee. They will run Committee meetings, train Committee Members, and prepare them for THON Weekend and other pre-THON events. In addition the Captains will be responsible for helping with other fun Hospitality events like Pink Shirt Orientation, Committee Retreat Day, and the Committee Competition. Each Captain will be responsible for numerous tasks during THON Weekend, including leading in the organization and execution of several meals.

This Captain must be extremely organized and diligent. They will work with all of the different hotel contacts that THON maintains to provide rooms for the Four Diamonds Families and other distinguished guests. Along with the Family Meals Captain, they will work with Family Relations to voice the concerns of the Four Diamonds Families to ensure that they have the best THON experience possible

This organized, motivated, and friendly Captain will be working very closely with the Overall. This position is in charge of general tasks, such as recording attendance, taking minutes at all meetings, and maintaining intra-committee events and relations. This position will collect and organize all contracts from the other Captains, and complete a document detailing each meal during THON Weekend. They will also maintain and organize the Angel website for the Captains. In addition, they will work with the Logistics Captain to plan the THON Weekend timeline and the Committee Coordinator to organize concession stand training and concessions for THON Weekend. This person must be flexible, as many unseen circumstances arise throughout the year that will demand their time.

This Captain must be very organized, hard working, and be able to exercise good communication skills. They will act as the liaison to both OPPerations and Supply Logistics Committees before THON for all inventory and supplies. Additionally they will plan a layout of the Hospitality storage area for THON Weekend and keep inventory of all stock. They are responsible for training the Hospitality Captains on how to use the kitchens and appliances, as well as how to maintain sanitation during THON Weekend. They will keep track of BJC items and utensils. This position is also in charge of the post-THON organization of all Hospitality paper products. Lastly, they will be in charge of purchasing and collecting money for all Hospitality Captain clothing.

This Captain is in charge of all of acquiring all of the beverage donations for THON Weekend and all pre-THON events. They will work with a variety of contacts in and out of the State College area to arrange the logistics of the donation of all of the water, Gatorade, juice, soda, and other beverages.

These Captains are in charge of soliciting the majority of food donations for all of the dancers and volunteers for THON Weekend, as well as pre-THON events, such as the 5K and Family Carnival. These Captains must be motivated and outgoing to contact local businesses and organize the logistics of donations. Each Captain will have a number of their own companies that they are responsible to contact and help throughout the THON season.

This energetic, friendly, and motivated Captain will be in charge of organizing all of the Hospitality Committees throughout the THON season and during THON Weekend. This highly creative person will assist the Captains in keeping the committees engaged throughout the THON season to ensure they have a worthwhile THON experience. Some of the events this Captain will organize include the Pink Shirt Orientation, Committee Retreat Day, 100 Days 'til THON and Committee Competition. This position will also be in charge of creating and maintaining the all Hospitality listserv and updating all Committee members on the status of the Water Social Competition. They will also work with the Administrative Assistant to organize concession stand training and concessions for THON Weekend.

This Captain must be innovative and entrepreneurial so they can contact new businesses to make donations to THON. In addition to contacting perennial donors, they are responsible for fostering new donors and working with promotions to secure those relationships. They have the unique opportunity to give new businesses in the area a chance to get involved. By finding new donations, this Captain starts the relationships that will help THON prosper in the future.

These Captains must be professional and organized. They will be in charge of organizing all of the donor contracts from all of the other Captains, and planning the Donor Appreciation Reception which is a networking event that occurs THON Weekend. They will invite donors to THON events, and work with Donor Relations and each Hospitality Captain to ensure that each donor receives the appropriate benefits for donating to THON. Lastly, they will maintain Hospitality's contracts and their records in THINK

This Captain must be friendly, energetic, professional, and organized. Working in conjunction with the Accommodations Captain, this position is the liaison between the Family Relations Committee and Hospitality. This Captain will be assigned a variety of donors who donate meals, which are given specifically to the families at various THON events. As part of this, this position will relay any requests from Family Relations to ensure that the Four Diamonds Families have the best THON experience possible.

These Captains must be professional and self-sufficient. They have the goal of completing all unmet Hospitality needs. One of these Captains will be in charge of working with the Fraternity Purchasing Association and the fraternity cooks to cover the areas of food the committee was not able to have donated. The other Captain will be in charge of maintaining contact with various grocers in the State College area, seeking donations for gift certificates. This Captain will also be in charge of the THON-wide Grocery Store Initiative (GSI), which requires them to motivate other THON committees to solicit grocery stores in their hometowns for gift cards. They will also be in charge of any Morale needs.

This Captain will be in charge of coordinating Hospitality's efforts for the 5K, Family Carnival and THON Weekend. They need to be organized, responsible, and be able to stay calm in high-pressure situations as the timeline is often deviated from due to outside circumstances. They will work closely with the Overall and the other Captains to make sure they understand the details of each donation for each event. They will work with the Administrative Assistant and Overall to create the timeline for THON Weekend, and work with Rules & Regulations to organize the parking areas for all THON events. This person needs to be very detail oriented to ensure that each THON event runs as smoothly as possible.

These Captains should be friendly, outgoing, professional and creative. They will be in charge of organizing promotions with local restaurants in order to build stronger relationships with the businesses in the State College community. They will be required to maintain our current promotions and pitching new promotion ideas to existing and new donors. They will also both be in charge of working with both the Public Relations and Communications Committees to come up with new and exciting ideas to get the whole community involved in our promotional events. They will also work with the Finance Captains to coordinate our money made through promotions.

These Captains will obtain snack donations from many local restaurants and corporations. The donations received by the Snacks Captains are needed during pre-THON events and especially during THON Weekend to give dancers the extra energy boost they need during and between meals. They will be in charge of coming up with an original design for the Snack Shack and creating a video to explain that it is open to the dancers. They will need to also come up with a plan to maintain the Snack Shack throughout THON Weekend.

Merchandise

Our Mission

The mission of the Merchandise Committee is to support the Penn State IFC/Panhellenic Dance Marathon by spreading awareness of THON and pediatric cancer through quality products and to protect the name of THON while contributing to the financial efforts For The Kids.

What We Do

The Merchandise Captains promote awareness of THON and raise money For The Kids by running the THON Store at sales throughout the year, during THON Weekend and through online orders. They are also responsible for marketing the THON Store, designing new products, distributing 100 Days and THON Weekend on-duty shirts, and handling all licensing issues.

These Captains must be patient, friendly, and diligent. They must also really like email! They will be responsible for maintaining the THON Store email account and answering customer questions through phone or e-mail. They will serve as the customer contacts and will also coordinate all exchanges as well as the exchange schedule with the other Merchandise Captains.

These Captains must be both attentive to detail and creative. They will be responsible for marketing THON Store products and Merchandise sales as well as spreading awareness about THON and the fight against pediatric cancer. They will be liaisons to the Communications, Entertainment and Public Relations committees.

This Captain must be both creative and artistic. This position will be responsible for developing new products to be sold through the THON Store. This Captain will also be responsible for designing and ordering items to meet the committee’s clothing needs throughout the year and must be willing and able to work with our five licensed vendors.

This Captain must be attentive to detail, organized, and creative. He or she will oversee all t-shirt designs prior to designs being sent through Penn State Licensing to ensure that the name and logo of Penn State Dance Marathon is protected. This position will also be the contact for any committee or organization needing assistance in creating their own t-shirt designs.

These Captains must be very attentive to detail and will be concerned with the logistics of THON Store sales. They will coordinate all HUB Sales including set up/tear down, work schedules, store layout, payment options, and product availability. They will be responsible for the inventory at set up and tear down of the store at all events. They will also be responsible for tracking all revenues and serve as liaisons to the Finance and Special Events committees. Two of these Captains will have Committee members.

These Captains must be highly motivated, organized, and creative. They will be responsible for launching the new THON Store catalog, organizing pre-sale for the 2010 logo and continuing the iGive project. They will work to develop more new and creative avenues to raise more money For The Kids!

These Captains must be creative, organized and outgoing. They will be responsible for bringing inspiration to and organizing events within the Merchandise committee. These responsibilities include planning Captain retreats, leading Committee member orientation, presenting family spotlights and other inner committee relations. They will also work with other THON committees by handling specific needs for merchandise and helping coordinate concessions training and concessions for THON Weekend.

These Captains are recommended to have technology knowledge and experience working with websites. They must be patient and hardworking. They will be responsible for making all changes and additions to the online THON Store. They will need to determine and request all Tech needs for events as well as serve as the liaisons to the Technology committee.

These Captains must be highly organized, motivated and responsible. They will be responsible for maintaining the THON Store inventory, maintaining the packaging supply inventory, alerting the overall when a re-order point is reached, and organizing the product storage area. These Captains must be very organized and outgoing. They will be responsible for coordinating the ordering and distribution of 100 Days and THON Weekend t-shirts. These two Captains will have committee members.

Morale

Our Mission

The Mission of the Morale Committee is to provide physical and emotional support for the Dancers THON Weekend. The Morale Committee also extends its energy and extroversion to the THON Community throughout the entire year.

What We Do

The Morale Captains strive to ensure that throughout the year, THON love and energy is being shared amongst all of those involved in the organization. Captains, along with their committees, promote different events and ensure the spirit of the THON community is constantly felt. Together with their committees, Captains also plan a variety of events to please every dancer during THON Weekend, including the WALK, Dancer Storage, Mail Call, the many Theme Hours and The Line Dance. Throughout the 46 hours, the Captains and Committee members are dedicated to the dancers, doing anything within their power to ensure the dancers finish the weekend.

The Administrative Assistant / Super Liaison is responsible for taking minutes for the weekly Morale Captain meetings. They are to maintain the ANGEL website where minutes and bullet points are posted. This positionise also responsible for keeping contact between the Morale Captain Committee and various other THON Committees including, but not limited to Special Events, Merchandise, Finance and Donor Relations. They will also assist the Morale Overall with their duties.

The Council of Commonwealth Student Governments Liaison is in charge of being the link between Morale and CCSG. They are responsible for bringing Morale to all of the campuses by helping plan and execute a Theme Hour during THON Weekend. They will also assist in planning the CCSG Dancer Retreat in early February. They are in charge of knowing what CCSG is about and involving them as much as possible with Morale related events. They will work closely with the Communications Captains involved in CCSG.

The Color Wars Coordinator is responsible for the organization, publicity, and creativity of all things Color Wars, both pre-THON and THON Weekend. The coordinator will be in charge of planning the Color Wars Theme, Color Wars Kickoff, Color Wars Grand Finale, and ensuring that Color Wars is effective for the dancers throughout all of THON Weekend.

This Captain is responsible for making sure dancers are going to be physically and emotionally ready for THON Weekend by hosting the Dancer Focus Group, creating and distributing the Dancer Survival Guide, and matching every dancer with a Moraler for THON Weekend. This Captain is also in charge of working with the Logistics/Timeline Captain to help with the Overlapping Moraler System.

The Dancer Storage Captains have the task of making the storage areas for all 700+ dancers as comfortable and enjoyable as possible, so that dancers have the opportunity to get off the floor while still being entertained. They will be responsible for all of the logistics, organization, and activities in the storage areas along with creating decorations and a theme.

The Entertainment Liaison is in charge of working with the Morale Liaison from the Entertainment Committee to help coordinate events that will affect both Morale and Entertainment. They will also keep Morale informed on Entertainment’s decisions and help them always keep the dancers’ best interest in mind and keep Entertainment informed on Morale’s decisions. They will also work closely with Larry Moore to help the Morale Captains create events and make them effective in the BJC. This includes collecting and editing all power points, minute by minutes, and scripts that will be used during THON Weekend.  This Captain also will work closely with the Timeline / Logistics Captain.

This Captain is in charge of overseeing and creating all of the videos for Morale both Pre-THON and THON Weekend. These videos include the WALK Video and the Color Wars Video, amongst others. Plus, this Captain will work collaboratively with the Production Captains from Entertainment and the Line Dance Coordinator to help with the Line Dance Video. Final Cut Pro experience is helpful, but not necessary for the position.

The role of the Family Relations Liaison is to work closely with the Morale Captain Committee to ensure that all of Morale’s events and actions during both Pre-THON and THON Weekend are entirely kid-friendly. They will work to incorporate family and kid participation in as many Morale events as possible. This Captain is also responsible for collecting and sorting Kids Mail, and executing the annual Kids Mail Call during THON Weekend. Furthermore, they are responsible for scheduling of Hershey Tours and Special Visitor's Trips for the Morale Captains.

This liaison is in charge of bringing morale to Morale. They are responsible for planning retreats for the Morale Captain Committee and challenge the spirit level of Morale so that it is always at its best. This individual is also responsible for going to other Captain Committee meetings and other THON supporters to let them know how much we appreciate their efforts as Captains and Overalls, whether it be OPP, R&R, Hospitality, Barry Bram, Larry Moore, or other THON supporters. Another responsibility of theirs is to help design and organize all of the Morale Captains’ gear for Pre-THON and THON Weekend.

The role of the Line Dance Coordinator is to do just that: coordinate the Line Dance. This Captain is in charge of facilitating and brainstorming with the Morale Captains, coordinating the music selection process, and working with Josh and Larry Moore to understand beats and movement. These steps lead up to the Line Dance Retreat, which the LDC will coordinate and run in conjunction with the Intra-Committee Liaison. After the retreat, this individual works with Larry to run Line Dance Practices in the Spring to teach the Line Dance to the Morale Captains, the THON Overall Committee, and all Captains, and Committee members. This Captain is also responsible for teaching the Line Dance THON Weekend.

The Logistics/Timeline Liaison is responsible for meeting with the Timeline Captain and the Morale Liaison from the Entertainment Committee to schedule all of the Morale theme hours, random events, and large events (Line Dance, WALK and Mail Call). They will also help to coordinate committee shifts as well as dancer storage shifts for Moralers. They will attend weekly Timeline meetings alongside the Morale Overall to coordinate the schedule of THON Weekend with other committees. The Logistics/Timeline Captain will also work with the Dancer Relations Captain on the Overlapping Moraler System. Microsoft Excel skills are helpful, but not necessary.

The role of the two Mail Call Captains is to collect, sort, organize and distribute all dancer, Captain, and Overall mail. These Captains also publicize Mail Call and the process of sending mail for THON Weekend. These Captains also work on building relationships with University Staff who assist Morale with Mail Call. During the year they are also in charge of the THON love box to help spread love and appreciation within the THON community.

The responsibility of the OPP/R&R Liaison is to work with all of the respective liaisons to fulfill the needs of both Morale and the respective committee. They will work with the OPP liaison in order to fulfill construction requests and floor plans for each Morale event, and enforce BJC rules placed by OPP. They will work with Rules & Regulations in order to protect the BJC during Morale Events, and also be able to communicate during THON Weekend to handle capacity issues, amongst others. During the year, this Captain will facilitate effective relationships between the committees.

The role of the Supply & Logistics/Hospitality Liaison is to work with their liaison counterparts to request all the needs that Morale requires. This Captain will educate the Morale Captain Committee on how to request needs for the numerous events Morale runs. They will help categorize the importance of every Morale request and see to it that the most important items are obtained. This individual works very closely with everyone on the Morale Captain Committee, especially the WALK as they require the most needs. This position has responsibilities that are Pre-THON, THON Weekend, and Post-THON.

The role of the three WALK Captains is to create the magical, mystical world known as the WALK, while still protecting the integrity of the upper levels of the Bryce Jordan Center. These individuals are responsible for choosing a theme, requesting supply needs, constructing the smaller projects, organizing larger projects with OPP, and promoting and coordinating three WALK’s during THON Weekend: One For The Kids, and two for the dancers. These Captains will also oversee their Moralers with the planning, preparation, and presentation of the WALK both Pre-THON and THON Weekend. They will work very closely with each other, along with others on the Morale Captain Committee.

The role of the Yellow Shirt Liaison is to help all of Morale reach their fullest potential as Moralers through different projects during the year. These projects include Yellow Shirt Orientation, All Morale Pow Wow, and the Yellow Shirt Survival Guide. These events and projects are Pre-THON and are aimed to make sure that during THON Weekend Moralers are prepared and excited to take care of their dancers.

OPPerations

Our Mission

The mission of the OPPerations Committee is to create and maintain a safe and exciting environment for the Four Diamonds families and the entire THON community. Through great dedication, OPPerations constructs dreams and repairs lives to ensure the future of THON.

What We Do

OPPerations Captains will work hard all year long to plan and prepare for all of the pre-THON Weekend events, finally culminating in THON Weekend where we transform the Bryce Jordan Center into the home of the largest student-run philanthropy in the world. Much of the work OPP does is behind the scenes and is essential for a fun and safe THON. OPP Captains are responsible for setting up and tearing down all THON events with the help of their Lieutenant Captains and Committee members. Come THON Weekend, OPP Captains will do work to ensure that for all 46 hours, the dancers, families, and volunteers are safe and enjoying the magic that is THON. A strong work ethic is essential to our success because OPP does consist of manual labor and hard work. As long as you have a willingness to learn and can make logical decisions, you will be a great asset.

This Captain is the key to assisting in organization and management. This position will be of direct assistance to the Overall in completing tasks, attending meetings as an OPP representative, as well as directing events. This person must be very organized as they will be responsible for aiding in planning for many events throughout the years such as interviews for Committee members.

This Captain will be responsible for the planning and execution of OPP's largest duties: The Big Move and Tear Down. This Captain will work with OPP Captains and many other Committees to prepare smooth setup and tear downs for events all year, culminating with THON Weekend. It is essential for this Captain to have terrific planning skills and a good knowledge of THON events.

This Captain will have a multitude of responsibilities within OPP. They will be assisting many Captains with their duties, including construction days, Lt. Captain meetings, and Slides of Strength preparation. Also, this Captain will be the lead person for planning mat cleanings and other OPP work days throughout the year.

These Captains will have very important responsibilities year-round including managing floor-plans for the BJC and other events. These Captains will work with many different Captains and committees throughout the year to help devise quick and efficient layouts for the events.

These hardworking Captains will take the lead in designing and building event requests from the other committees. It is essential for these Captains to have good skills with tools and construction. These Captains will work with other committees to build safe and fun games and structures for events throughout the year.

This captain is in charge of OPP's glory event - the Slides of Strength! This Captain will plan themes, timelines, and sponsoring for the SOS so that come THON Weekend the dancers will have a wonderful time and a chance to get off their feet and on the ground. This Captain must be creative and full of energy so that they are able to pick up the spirits of all of the OPP Captains and all of the dancers.

This Captain's main responsibility will be organizing and running OPP Lieutenant Captain meetings throughout the year and preparing the Lieutenant Captains for THON Weekend. Additionally, this Captain will aid the Setup/Tear Down Captain with preparations for THON Weekend and other events.

This Captain will have the fun job of organizing events throughout the year for the OPPerations Captain Committee and also with other committees in THON. This Captain will also be in charge of managing THON gear for OPP Captains.

These Captains will be in charge of raising the spirits of the hardworking OPP Committee members. They will organize and lead both the Blue Shirt Workshop, OPPeration: Orientation, and the OPP Olympics. In addition these Captains will manage other minor OPP events and OPP Spirit Points.

These Captains are in charge of the Four Diamonds Recycling Effort (4DRE), which is a great way of raising money for THON. They will be responsible for marketing and executing the 4DRE. These Captains with work with University contacts and THON organizations year-round.

This Captain should be energetic and outgoing as they will be in charge of providing motivation for the Captains and Committee Members throughout the year.  This captain will help coordinate trips to Hershey Medical Center, special visitor trips, and any fundraising activities that may occur.

This Captain will be the main contact for all communication with the Morale Committee throughout the year. This will include managing construction requests alongside the Construction Captains as well as organizing events planned for THON Weekend. This person must be very engaging and organized to ensure smooth communication and work between Morale and OPP.

This captain will work to facilitate all communications between OPP and the Rules & Regulations Committee. This includes passing on information to the OPP Captains about safety during THON events and fundraising activities. This Captain will have the responsibility of planning and leading all of the floor moppings throughout THON Weekend with assistance from other committees.

This Captain will work closely with Entertainment, Hospitality, and Special Events Committees to relay all necessary information between our committees. This position will help in the planning of events prior to THON Weekend, such as the Family Carnival and the THON 5K.

This Captain will serve as a crucial link between the Supply Logistics and OPP Committees. They will work to obtain all of OPP's needs so that OPP can operate. This Captain must be extremely organized and timely with all of their tasks. Also, this person will manage all of OPP's exisiting supplies and storage areas.

This Captain will work alongside all of the OPP Captains to facilitate any communication necessary. This person should have great knowledge of OPP and THON as they will assist in a variety of tasks throughout the year.

Public Relations

Our Mission

The mission of the Public Relations Committee is to conquer pediatric cancer by serving as the voice of THON to those outside the Penn State Community and educating our publics about pediatric cancer, The Four Diamonds Fund, and the Penn State IFC/Panhellenic Dance Marathon.

Whether it's communicating directly with media outlets, planning marketing events and campaigns, designing publications, or securing THON memories, the Public Relations Committee invites everyone to join our fight against pediatric cancer!

The Administrative Assistant is the right hand of Public Relations. This Captain will mediate and delegate requests from the Overall Committee, manage Committee projects and tasks, and record meeting minutes. One of the most unique and important responsibilities of the Administrative Assistant is to provide weekly inspiration for the Public Relations Committee. Applicants should be very organized, motivated, and communicative.

The Graphic Design Captains will have the chance to create and plan all graphics, logos, and promotional materials for THON 2010. These Captains will be responsible for collecting and processing all graphic design requests. They will work closely with the Publication Management Captains to create the Diamond Guide, the annual THON Weekend program. As a result, applicants should be organized, creative, and efficient, as they may work on several projects at once. Finally, applicants should be proficient in several graphic design programs (Adobe Photoshop, InDesign, and Illustrator are a must - CS3 is preferred).

The Media Relations Captains are the primary points of contact between THON and the local, state, and national press. Three Captains will focus on print media networks and three Captains will focus on broadcast media networks. All Media Relations Captains will contact and communicate with media outlets, brainstorm new pitch angles, and collaborate to create and send press releases. Applicants should have excellent interpersonal skills and be able to create and maintain great professional relationships. Experience writing news articles and press releases would be very helpful in this position.

The Alternative Media Captains find new and innovative ways to spread awareness about pediatric cancer, The Four Diamonds Fund, and THON. These Captains will explore and utilize the fast growing world of online marketing to increase publicity. They will manage THON's Facebook and Twitter accounts, collaborate to update a blog, and search for new sources of alternative media. Applicants should be creative and have strong computer and communication skills.

The Events Management Captains are responsible for planning and executing several exciting THON events including, but not limited to, 100 Days 'til THON and the Mr. and Mrs. THON Pageant. Additionally, these Captains will help with events exclusively for the Public Relations Committee. They will lead a committee that will help to plan and run each event. Applicants should be very organized, willing to delegate responsibilities, and able to create detailed plans for future events. Creativity is also important, as these Captains will be expected to include their own unique flair to each event.

The Publication Management Captains will design and layout all publications produced by Public Relations, including the Diamond Guide, the THON Weekend program. These Captains will work closely with the Graphic Design Captains throughout the year on various publications. Applicants should be highly motivated, creative, and proficient in graphic design and layout programs (Adobe InDesign and Photoshop). Finally, experience in publication planning or layout would be extremely helpful in this position.

These Captains will be responsible for the photography of all THON events, keeping track of shot lists and image concepts from Overalls and Captains, and the photo archives. They will also lead a committee that will help them shoot, edit, and organize photographs. A strong background with photography, especially digital photography, is a crucial. Applicants should also have great organizational and leadership skills.

The Street Teams Captains will develop, plan, and execute several unique marketing campaigns that will around State College and beyond. These Captains will lead a committee that will play an integral role in spreading awareness about pediatric cancer, The Four Diamonds Fund, and THON. Rules & Regulations is committed to providing safety and security to the families and kids by creating an infrastructure of love and support. The leaders in red will wholeheartedly care for the cause with the determination necessary to protect the integrity of and ensure the future of THON.

What We Do

The Rules & Regulations Captains are an essential part of THON ensuring the safety of THON families, dancers, and spectators THON Weekend. Rules & Regulations efforts span from regulating the security at the Family Carnival to the BJC THON Weekend. This Captain Committee is responsible for enforcing the rules and regulations to ensure the future and integrity of THON.

This Captain is responsible for keeping all Captain information updated and accurate as well as record keeping at all Rules & Regulations meetings. The Administrative Assistant is responsible for relaying important information to Rules & Regulations through weekly updates. This Captain will also help manage the ANGEL website, where all documents, information and reports will be available. This Captain will also aid the Overall in small projects leading up to and during THON Weekend.

These Captains are responsible for coordinating, approving, and promoting alternative fundraisers planned by organizations. These Captains will work to ensure the correct rules are followed and actions are taken when aiding organizations in planning alternative fundraisers. Each alternative fundraising Captain will be responsible for attending CCSG Council weekends. Each Captain will act as a CCSG liaison to convey messages to the Communications Committee and Commonwealth Campuses.

These Captains are responsible for preparing and conducting the registration sessions for all dancers. They will also be responsible for all documentation used for dancer registration. Duties for this position include planning the logistics of the registration sessions and organizing pre-registration. These Captains work closely with Technology Captains.

These Captains are the main contact for the EMTs and athletic trainers leading up to and including THON Weekend. The EMS Captains are responsible for all EMT and athletic trainer needs for pre-THON events and THON Weekend The EMS Captains are responsible for collecting dancer data, making dancer bracelets and setting up the triage room for THON Weekend.

This Captain will coordinate functions with respective committee's liaisons. This liaison will coordinate THON Weekend events with the Hospitality and Entertainment Committees. This Captain will be the Rules & Regulations representative in timeline meetings every week. This Captain will provide weekly inspiration with help from the Family Relations Committee and will be the liaison for setting up special visitors trips as well as Hershey tours for the Rules & Regulations Captain Committee.

This Captain will coordinate functions with respective Committee's liaisons. This liaison is especially responsible for R&R/Morale/OPP (RYB) round table events, reporting all Rules & Regulations needs and supplies to the SL counterpart, and organizing THON Weekend events with OPP and Morale.

These Captains' Main purpose is to ensure that all students are fundraising as safely as possible. These Captains will help organizations obtain permits for canning locations, collect data from post-canning reports and help establish penalties for broken rules. They will work with many municipalities to research Rules & Regulations for canister solicitation. These Captains are also responsible for monitoring Canning Weekends and record any violations of the fundraising rules.

These Captains will act as peace keepers for the Rules & Regulations Captains. These Captains are responsible for ordering all apparel for the Captain Committee and will help establish committee fundraising efforts throughout the R&R Committees. These Captains arrange all social events with and without other THON Committees. Special projects that present themselves throughout the year to ensure the future and continued safety of THON are also these Captains responsibility. These projects consist of Rules & Regulations Captain retreats and the Family Carnival booth.

This Captain organizes THON Weekend traffic efforts for both deliveries, set up and family parking. This Captain will also work closely to update parking maps available on THON.org. This Captain is also responsible for helping with THON 5K and Family Carnival parking and traffic. This position will work closely with the BJC, Penn State Parking, Police Services, Hospitality, and OPPerations to ensure smooth deliveries THON Weekend.

Pass Team Captains establish the Pass System for THON Weekend with Technology Pass Captains. Pass Captains will monitor pass lists submitted on THINK by THON Chairs, make passes with their committees for THON Weekend and train each Pass Team Committee using Pass Simulations. It will be a priority for these Captains to streamline the pass distribution and collection process THON Weekend. One of these Captains will not have a committee.

These Captains are responsible for motivating Rules & Regulations Committees. They are responsible for coordinating Red Shirt Orientation, R&R Extreme Games, and R&R Round Up. This group of Captains are responsible for organizing and tracking all incentive points and guidelines for committees. This position requires excitement, creativity and enthusiasm!

Security Captains are responsible for orchestrating the entire security during THON Weekend. The biggest task of this group is to educate Captains and Committee members about the Rules & Regulations practiced in the BJC. The Security Captains are responsible for drafting the Security Brief for THON Weekend, creating zones, bumps and schedules for THON Weekend as well as organizing all security leaders before and during THON Weekend. One of these Captains will not have a Committee.

These Captains are responsible for providing all THON organizations with materials for fundraising weekends. They are responsible for organizing can cleaning and material distributions for Canning Weekends.

Special Events

Our Mission

The mission of the Special Events Committee is to inspire, inform, and unite the THON community by developing and continuing a variety of events to spread the spirit of THON year-round.

What We Do

The Special Events Captains seek to maintain THON as a yearlong philanthropy through planning and executing the annual THON 5K, Family Carnival, and Road To THON Celebration dinner. Special Events is the creator of the THON museum displayed during THON Weekend. This committee is also in charge of Wigs for Kids THON event.

This position will be responsible for taking meeting notes and maintaining the organization of the Special Events Captain committee. This person will plan social activities within Special Events, and act as a liaison to the Morale, Finance, and Donor Relations committees. This position is also required to work with other liaisons to create and expand the THON Museum displayed during THON Weekend. Organization skills, flexibility, and attention to detail are necessary for this position.

The Decoration Captains will each have a committee of approximately 30 Special Events Committee members. Decoration Captains will plan and execute Arts and Crafts week for both the 5K and Family Carnival. These Captains will be in charge of leading weekly committee meetings and inspiring Committee members throughout the year. They will also be in charge of planning Maroon Shirt Orientation and Diamond Crusades for the Special Events Committee members. These Captains should possess creativity and leadership skills.

These Captains will work on planning and executing all Captain-related events including Captain Dodgeball, Captain Pictures, Captain Broomball Tournament, and the Captain Formal. These Captains will also be in charge of planning the HUB LateNight Four Diamonds Movie showings. These Captains should possess time management and communication skills.

This Captain will be in charge of working with the other Marketing Liaison on advertising existing events and developing new events to expand THON as a year-long philanthropy. This Captain will work as the liaison to the Communications Committee through creating and sending listserv blurbs in order to spread event information to Penn State Organizations. This Captain will work with the other liaisons on Special Events to create the THON Museum displayed during THON Weekend. Advertising and marketing knowledge is preferred for this position.

This Captain is in charge of communicating with the Rules & Regulations, OPPerations, and Entertainment Committees for each event. They will work to maintain safety at all events and may be asked to create an event Pass System with the Rules & Regulations committee. They will also help the event Captains logistically create floor plans and timelines for each event. This Captain should possess excellent communication and logical thinking skills.

This Captain will be in charge of working with the other Marketing Liaison on advertising existing events and developing new events to expand THON as a year-long philanthropy. This Captain will also act as the liaison to the Public Relations Committee in order to communicate event information to the public and media. This Captain will work with the other liaisons on Special Events to create the THON Museum displayed during THON Weekend. Advertising and marketing knowledge is preferred for this position.

The Family Carnival is an event where student volunteers and the Four Diamonds families get together for an exciting day of food, fun, and entertainment. The Family Carnival Captains are responsible for planning of the event, the development of the theme, and management of the carnival booths. These Captains must work closely together with other Special Events Captains, THON committees, and THON Chairs of student organizations in regards to their roles within the event. Effective communication, organization, and leadership experience are necessary for this position.

These Captains are in charge of the annual THON 5K, which is the only fundraising event directly executed by the THON committees. They will work with the Marketing Liaisons to promote the event and with all other liaisons to plan and execute the event. These Captains must work with the Decoration Captains in order to create decorations for the event. These Captains must be able to work well under pressure.

This Captain is in charge of communicating with the Hospitality, Family Relations, and Merchandise Committees for each event. The liaison will plan Special Visitor’s trips and provide family inspiration for each Captain meeting. They will also work to obtain any merchandise or food and drink items for the events. This liaison will work with the other liaisons to create the THON Museum displayed during THON Weekend. Communication skills are necessary for this position.

The Road To THON Celebration is an event that culminates the year’s hard work and prefaces the highly anticipated THON Weekend to come. These Captains will work closely with the Special Events Overall in deciding on meals, decorations, ticket sales, and timeline of the night. They will also assist in the creation and distribution of the invitations and answering any questions the student body has about the dinner. These Captains must be available all day long on the date of the dinner. Organization, creativity, and attention to detail are essential to this position.

This Captain will work closely with Supply Logistics in requesting and distributing all supplies necessary for every event throughout the year. They will also work with the Technology Committee regarding event information on thon.org and registration troubleshooting. The SL/Tech Liaison will work with the other liaisons on Special Events to create the THON Museum displayed during THON Weekend. Technological skills are preferred for this position.

These Captains will work closely together to promote Wigs For Kids hair donations. They will be responsible for working with the marketing Captains on informing the THON community about the Wigs For Kids organization and encourage participation throughout the year. These two Captains will be in charge of the application process throughout the year and will plan and execute Wigs For Kids on-stage presentation THON Weekend. They will also establish and maintain contact with local hair salons throughout the year. These Captains should have excellent communication and organization skills.

Supply Logistics

Our Mission

It is the mission of the Supply Logistics Committee to serve The Penn State IFC/Panhellenic Dance Marathon by acquiring all in-kind donations for THON Weekend and all THON events. It is our goal to help THON continue its monetary and emotional contribution to The Four Diamonds Fund by ensuring that each Committee receives the supplies they need, while spreading knowledge of THON and pediatric cancer to every donor we come in contact with during the journey.

What We Do

Supply Logistics, as a committee, is responsible for obtaining all in-kind donations for THON Weekend and all THON events. This committee allows Captains to spread their passion of THON and creating awareness of pediatric cancer to every donor they come in contact with. By maintaining strong relationships with our donors and by contacting new donors, we continue to lay the groundwork for future dance marathons. We work year round contacting businesses and corporations for the in-kind donations needed to make all events leading up to THON and THON Weekend possible. In addition, we are also in charge of Dancer Bags, Dancer and Committee Shirts, the THON Raffle, and the 5K Runner Bags. This is a great Committee to join if you are interested in contributing to the success of THON 2010 through spreading your passion of THON to others!

This Captain will be in charge of general tasks such as taking minutes and managing communication within the committee. This position will keep track of the logistics for the THON Raffle. Another responsibility of this Captain will be to oversee the gift-card initiative, which means working with major chains such as Wal-Mart and Target to get gift cards that can be used to get supplies that are needed last minute. This Captain will also be a liaison to the Donor Relations Committee to make sure that supply donors have been given the appropriate benefits. It is important for this person to be very organized and good at multi-tasking.

This Captain will be in charge of THON storage located in Pennypacker Hall. They will take inventory and organize all of our current supplies and all of the incoming supplies arriving year round. This Captain will know the ins and outs of THON storage and will distribute the supplies to the appropriate committees and places for the events leading up to THON and during THON Weekend.

These Captains will form a small sub-committee in charge of keeping track of supplies and requests from start to finish. They will be the experts on who requested what, storage inventory, and the status of requests. They will work together as a team to keep a running inventory of supplies in storage, and act as the link between Supply Logistics and all other THON committees. These Captains should be very organized and extremely good at communicating. It is their job to ensure that every Committee is represented and that all of their concerns are heard.

They will work throughout the year to form professional relationships with these donors. This can involve speaking with managers and representatives at companies both large and small, and forging a relationship that will hopefully not only benefit THON 2010 but will be in place for years to come. These Captains should be business-minded, enjoy making deals with professionals, and have a talent for making strangers fall in love with THON. Enthusiasm is key! The mission of the Technology Committee is to assist the other thirteen Committees by providing effective and efficient technical solutions and support to aid in the mission of The Penn State IFC/Panhellenic Dance Marathon of conquering pediatric cancer. Technology strives to take advantage of the latest technologies to spread awareness of pediatric cancer and The Four Diamonds Fund.

What We Do

Every Committee in THON uses technology in some way, and the Technology Committee is there to make sure all of THON's gadgets still work. Tech is responsible for the administration of the THON Store website, the Pass System, THINK, and of course THON.org. Oh, and we do the 5K Robots. Being on Tech will give you great experience with technology and a unique view of all different aspects of THON.

The THINK developers are responsible for the continued development of THON's Information NetworK (THINK) and database. THINK is an information management system designed to reduce mistakes and administrative overhead within THON. Dancer registration, organization management, and donor tracking are a few of the key components to THINK. THINK developers should have strong knowledge of dynamic web development and the ability to learn on-the-fly. They will also act as the main points of contact between Technology and other committees in THON. Familiarity with PHP development and MySQL databases is a plus.

The Technology Committee is responsible for the development and maintenance of THON's website, www.thon.org. With more than a quarter million page views per month, THON.org is an important point of reference for those inside and outside of THON. Developers should have experience with dynamic web development and a will to learn. Knowledge of DRUPAL, PHP, XML, and MySQL is a plus, but not mandatory.

The Pass System is a web application used to control access to the floor during THON weekend. Working closely with their Rules & Regulations counterparts, the Pass Team will develop new implementation plans and processes for the Pass System to ensure short and fast lines during THON weekend. Knowledge of PHP, MySQL, and Networking is a plus, but the only requirement is the desire to learn it.

The Administrative Assistant is responsible for taking minutes at meetings, posting information to the ANGEL group, handling pre-THON events, arranging socials with other committees, and planning AWESOME activities. The special assistant should be reliable, outgoing, motivated, creative and fun!

This multifaceted job involves creating instructional guides for the THINK WIKI and training other committees on how available technology can benefit them. The Tech Liaison will also be in charge of managing the THON Photobase and must have excellent interpersonal skills and be quick learners.

The Networking captain will be responsible for setting up a network in the BJC to run the many systems that require a reliable Internet connection – the pass tables, the blog station, etc. Some programming knowledge is required.
