Frequently Asked Questions - Supply Logistics

Our Mission

It is the mission of the Supply Logistics Committee to serve The Penn State IFC/Panhellenic Dance Marathon by acquiring all in-kind donations for THON Weekend and all THON events. It is our goal to help THON continue its monetary and emotional contribution to The Four Diamonds Fund by ensuring that each Committee receives the supplies they need, while spreading knowledge of THON and pediatric cancer to every donor we come in contact with during the journey.

What We Do

Supply Logistics, as a committee, is responsible for obtaining all in-kind donations for THON Weekend and all THON events. This committee allows Captains to spread their passion of THON and creating awareness of pediatric cancer to every donor they come in contact with. By maintaining strong relationships with our donors and by contacting new donors, we continue to lay the groundwork for future dance marathons. We work year round contacting businesses and corporations for the in-kind donations needed to make all events leading up to THON and THON Weekend possible. In addition, we are also in charge of Dancer Bags, Dancer and Committee Shirts, the THON Raffle, and the 5K Runner Bags. This is a great Committee to join if you are interested in contributing to the success of THON 2010 through spreading your passion of THON to others!

Please contact Dan Seery at Supply.Logistics@thon.org if you have any questions! Thank you!

This person will be the right hand to the Overall. They will help with general tasks like taking minutes and managing communication within the Committee. They will work with the Overall to plan all Captain Retreats and inter-Committee activities. This Captain will oversee the Gift Card Initiative, which means they will work with major chains such as Wal-Mart and Target to get gift cards that can be used to help get any last minute supplies we need. This Captain will also work with the Overall to make sure all donations made by the Captains, the Overall, and other Committees are being tracked and benefited correctly. It is important for this person to be very organized, neat and good at multi-tasking.

These Captains will work directly with donors to secure the supplies needed for pre-THON and THON Weekend events. They are a representative of THON to the community and for many donors it will be the first time they hear about THON and its mission. They will spread THON’s message and knowledge of pediatric cancer. They will work throughout the year to form professional relationships with these donors. This will involve speaking with managers and representatives of companies both on a large and small scale. They will have to clearly, quickly and effectively explain THON, its mission, and the reason for a donation. They will build relationships with new donors that will benefit future years and keep previous relationships strong. These Captains should be creative to find new donors, professional in making deals, and enthusiastic in sharing their passion of THON! These Captains will be broken down into the following sub-categories:

  • Arts, Crafts, & Fabric
  • House Wares, Cleaning, & Medical Supplies
  • Paper & Office Supplies
  • Paint, Hardware, and Lumber
  • Special Projects
  • Toys, Games, & Sporting Goods
  • Technology & Random Needs

These Captains will form a small focus group within the Committee that will handle all communication to outside Committees. They will be in charge of keeping track of supplies and requests from start to finish to make sure every Committee has what they need in order to make their event a success. They will also be in charge of organizing Supply Logistics storage facilities and keeping an accurate inventory of what THON has. They will be experts on what has been requested, stored, and distributed to make sure THON has accurate records. They will also manage and upkeep the NEW supply request system on THINK! These Captains need to be very organized and extremely good at communicating. It is their job to ensure that every Committee is represented and that all of their concerns are heard.

This is a new position that will concentrate on making the THON Raffle even more of a success! This Captain will lead a focus group both in and out of meetings to talk about the Raffle. They will work to secure prizes for the mini-Raffle, track Raffle sales to make sure we are being efficient, and brainstorm new ways to sell and promote the Raffle. They will also be in charge of tracking and crediting all Raffle ticket sales to the respective organization, a new thing this year! They will also work with other Captains to help with big events and promotions within Supply Logistics. This Captain needs to be very creative and organized.
