Our Mission

The mission of the Merchandise Committee is to support the Penn State IFC/Panhellenic Dance Marathon by spreading awareness of THON and pediatric cancer through quality products and to protect the name of THON while contributing to the financial efforts For The Kids.

What We Do

The Merchandise Captains promote awareness of THON and raise money For The Kids by running the THON Store at sales throughout the year, during THON Weekend and through online orders. They are also responsible for marketing the THON Store, designing new products, distributing 100 Days and THON Weekend on-duty shirts, and handling all licensing issues.

**Merchandise Captains are not eligible to dance THON Weekend.

Administrative Assistant (1)

This Captain must be highly motivated and flexible. This position will serve as right hand to the Overall and act as liaison to the Donor & Alumni Relations and Supply Logistics committees. This Captain will be responsible for taking the meeting minutes, sending committee reminders and updating the committee calendar and will also be responsible for creating the master Merchandise timeline for THON Weekend.

**This Captain is not eligible to dance THON Weekend.

Committee Relations (2)

These captains must be creative, organized and outgoing. They will be responsible for bringing inspiration to and organizing events within the Merchandise committee. These responsibilities inclue planning Captain retreats, leading Committee member orientation, presenting family spotlights and other inner committee relations. They will also serve as liaisons and work with other THON committees by handling specific needs for merchandise and helping coordinateconcessions training and conessions for THON weekend.

Distribution (2)

These captains must be very organized and outgoing. They will be responsible for coordinating the ordering and distribution of 100 Days and THON Weekend t-shirts. One of these captains will have a committee.

Graphic Design (1)

This Captain must be both creative and artistic. This Captain will also be responsible for designing and ordering items to meet the committee’s clothing needs throughout the year and must be willing and able to work with our five licensed vendors. They use their talents to develop a catalog for the THON Store, as well as work with Marketing to design all advertising materials.

**This Captain is not eligible to dance THON Weekend.

Licensing (1)

This Captain must be attentive to detail, organized, and creative. He or she will oversee all t-shirt designs prior to designs being sent through Penn State Licensing to ensure that the name and logo of Penn State Dance Marathon is protected. This position will also be the contact for any committee or organization needing assistance in creating their own t-shirt designs.

Marketing (3)

These captains must be both attentive to detail and creative. They will be responsible for marketing THON Store products and Merchandise sales as well as spreading awareness about THON and the fight against perdiatric cancer. They will be liaisons to the Communications, Entertainment, and Public Relations committees. One of these captains will have a committee.

Sales Management (2)

These Captains must be very attentive to detail and will be concerned with the logistics of THON Store sales. They will coordinate all HUB Sales including set up/tear down, work schedules, store layout, payment options, and product availability. They will be responsible for the inventory at set up and tear down of the store at all events.

Special Projects (2)

These Captains must be highly motivated, organized, and creative. They will work closely with Marketing to come up with and execute projects that spread awareness about pediatric cancer, THON, and the THON Store. They will also work to develop more new and creative avenues to raise more money For The Kids!

 **These Captains are not eligible to dance THON Weekend.

Technology Captain (1)

This Captain is recommended to have technology knowledge and ESPECIALLY experience working with websites. They must be patient and hardworking. They will be responsible for making all changes and additions to the online THON Store, determining and requesting all Tech needs for events, serving as the liaison to the Technology committee, as well as participating in the general duties of the Merchandise committee.  

**This Captain is not eligible to dance THON Weekend.

THON Store (6)

These Captains must be highly motivated, organized, and work well in a group dynamic.   They are in charge of the day-to-day operations of the THON Store including keeping accurate inventory, filling and shipping orders, keeping all products organized, keeping products well stocked, as well as coordinating with Sales Management captains to make sales run as efficiently as possible.

Customer Satisfaction (2)
These Captains must be patient, friendly, and diligent. They must also really like email! They will be responsible for maintaining the THON Store email account and answering customer questions through phone or e-mail. They will serve as the customer contact and will also coordinate all exchanges as well as the exchange schedule with the other Merchandise Captains.
Inventory Accounting (1)
This Captain must be highly organized, responsible, and detail oriented. They will be responsible for maintaining the THON Store inventory, maintaining the packaging supply inventory, alerting the overall when a re-order point is reached, and tracking THON Store sales, and calculating THON Store sales taxes. They will work closely with the Online Store captain as well as the Storage captain. 
Online Store (1)
This captain must be organized, motivated and responsible. They will be responsible for running the online THON Store which involves, but is not limited to, coordinating efforts to fill and ship THON Store online orders. They will also serve as the liaison to the Merchandise Technology captain for everything involving the THON store website. 
Storage (1)
This Captain must be highly organized, responsible, and detail oriented. They will be responsible for keeping all storage areas organized and well stocked. They will work closely with the Inventory Accounting captain to determine ideal numbers for inventory in all storage areas as well as making sure those ideal numbers are maintained.
Sales Strategist (1)
This Captain must be very attentive to detail and will be concerned with the logistics of THON Store sales. They will work with the Sales Management captains to coordinate all HUB Sales in regards to product availability. They will be responsible for looking at sales data with a critical eye to locate trends as well as serve as the main link between the THON Store captains and the Sales management captains.
