How to Help
Interested in helping out? Please click on the following opportunities below to learn more!
Each year, new Four Diamonds families join the THON community. All of the new information they receive about THON and THON events throughout the year can be very overwhelming. The Family Relations Committee is there to help, but many times what this new family really needs is a veteran THON family who can help them sort through the information. They need someone who has experience THON first hand as a family. That’s where you come in! We’re looking for families willing to lend a hand to new THON families. In these “adoptions,” we’re asking veteran families to provide new families with helpful THON weekend pointers, be a friendly face, and help them maneuver through their first THON. If interested, please contact Kaylee Tully, Overall Family Relations Chairperson, at family.relations@thon.org.
THONveloping has increased in popularity among families over the past few years, and now it contributes a large portion to the yearly THON total. Many of you may already gather donations from friends and family members. This is greatly appreciated and both a huge help to THON and each Four Diamonds family! This year, we are again offering you the opportunity to send out Penn State’s official THONvelopes! By using these, you are increasing the chances that those you care about will donate to THON. This is a great opportunity to help raise the total, and helping to bring us one step closer to a curing cancer! If interested, THONveloping materials will be available at the Family Carnival. Materials include mailing and return envelopes, a customized letter, and a guide to creating THONvelopes. We hope that this will be an enjoyable activity for you and your family! If interested please contact Kaylee Tully, Overall Family Relations Chairperson, at family.relations@thon.org.
If you’ve attended THON, you know that at certain points throughout the weekend, dancers may struggle because their bodies are very fatigued from standing and lack of sleep. We’re always looking for ways to keep the dancers energized and inspired throughout the weekend, and we think that we might have found just the thing to keep them on their feet! During the Family Carnival, THON 5K, and Harvest Day, your family members can record your special “shout-out” to the THON 2012 dancers! Start brainstorming as to what you want to say now, so you can get the perfect message out to the dancers!
One of the best ways to introduce yourself and your family to the THON community is by speaking at one of our events throughout the year or during THON weekend. This is an amazing opportunity to inspire Penn State students and members of the THON community. Attendance at events range from small to large. If you are not comfortable speaking infront of the packed Bryce Jordan Center, do not be dissuaded. Smaller events such as Committee Orientations would love to hear you speak. If you are interested in this once in a lifetime experience, please email Kaylee Tully, Overall Family Relations Chairperson, at family.relations@thon.org.
