Families - Family Resources - State College
There is so much to do during THON within the BJC, but some families enjoy taking a few hours outside of the BJC to explore downtown State College. Below are some of the highlights to check out when visiting downtown.
Parking
Downtown State College has metered parking spots along College and Beaver Avenues. There are also three parking decks, the Fraser Lot (on Fraser St.), Beaver Lot (on Beaver Ave.) and Foster Lot (on Foster St.).
Bus System
The CATA Bus system runs two free “Loops” and two free “Links.” The Loops can help you get to downtown State College, and the Links access the Penn Stater Hotel, Nittany Lion Inn, and Creamery. During THON Weekend, the loops run for all 46 hours.
Creamery
Getting ice cream at the Creamery has been a Penn State tradition since 1896! If you have some free time, we encourage you to visit the Creamery to try it’s world famous ice cream. The Creamery is about a 10-15 minute walk from the BJC and can also be accessed by both the Red Link and White Loop.
