In 1973, a small group of dedicated Penn State students held our first Dance Marathon. That year, thirty-four dancers participated and raised two thousand dollars. Since then, THON's presence in the Penn State community has grown exponentially. THON now has fifteen thousand student volunteers, seven hundred dancers, and has raised more than sixty-one million dollars, benefiting The Four Diamonds Fund at Penn State Children's Hospital.
THON's journey to conquer childhood cancer has seen many great successes this year. We revealed a new logo, increased the availability of THONvelopes to all students, and registered more runners for the 5K than ever before.
Most importantly, the kids and their families continue to benefit from superior care, comprehensive support, and innovative research at Penn State Children's Hospital. The Four Diamonds Fund remains strong and continues to offset the cost of treatment that the families' insurance will not pay for. The Fund has also expanded its research initiatives, including a new five million dollar experimental therapeutics program.
Both THON and The Fund are able to continue expanding because of you, THON's donors. On behalf of THON Volunteers, The Four Diamonds Fund, and the families, thank you for all that you do For The Kids.
